For the past couple of days our puppy has been refusing to go into her kennel! We have never had this problem in the past and we don't know what to do. In the past we would walk over to her kennel, tell her it was kennel time and she would run into it. We have always given her a treat after she goes in. Well for the past two days Foxy will not go into her kennel on her own. We tell her kennel and she won't even come close to it. I have tried offering her various different treats, toys, ect. and she won't go for any of them. Today I tried for almost 5 minutes to get her to go into her kennel and I finally had to give up and pick her up and put her in it before she caused me to be late for work. My husband and I work opposite shifts so Foxy never spends more than a few hours in her kennel. I don't know what to do and it is extremely upsetting me. I want her to be comfortable in her kennel and I don't want to chase her around and beg her to go into her kennel every day. Please help! Any advice would be appreciated.

My dog not only gives us a hard time going in her kennel, but she gives us a hard time coming out.
Not an uncommon stage. Make sure you give her something very special when she goes in. Feed all meals in the crate. If she refuses do not get upset as she will sense that. Just pick her up, put her in and treat. She will get the idea that the crate always means good things.
Agreed with Sam. These dogs are smart. They pick up on our routines. My guess is you have a routine when you leave and Foxy has figured you out! Remember: Say it once. Make it happen. Give your command. If not obeyed, make it happen. Just pick her up and put her in her kennel. And make it positive with treats, food or toys. Don't worry. Foxy will test you as she figures out routines and boundaries. It's all part of the fun!
Are there blankets in the kennel? The one time that Brody didnt want to go in his it was because the blankets were dirty
I taught Gibson "Inside!", so that when he jumps up to come inside I give him a treat. He now comes running when I need him to come in :)
Mary, I might be reading the situation wrong, but it sounds like Ginger needs to start working for your attention and other things, like food, toys, etc....."even though I got out a treat for her like usual"...she knows good things are coming her way anyway.

I am often tempted to let Tod on my lap, share my food, get down on the floor and play rough letting him mouth my hands a little, etc...but I keep reminding myself about the importance of my leadership in his life. He needs to know he's the follower. One day it might be a matter of life and death.

I think Ginger will want to be inside, outside, anywhere ... if she recognizes you as her leader.
Make sure that the kennel is nice and roomy and comfortable. Tig has a comfy bed and a favorite toy. His crate is big enough for him to stand up and walk around in it. Every morning before I go to work, I say "Go get in your house!" in a happy excited way and I drrop a cookie or two in the crate. He is usually waiting in the crate before I toss in the cookies.
