So I've had Dax on Sentinel for...pretty much ever since he's been old enough to take heartworm preventatives. And me being the smart person that I am went and bought a six month supply of the 11-25 pound dosage. Well (wake up Amanda) so far I've only used one, and Dax is, as of a couple weeks ago, almost 25 pounds, so...my question is I know it's SAFE to give him the lower dosage but will it be strong enough? I mean will those couple extra pounds just make it completely ineffective? I don't want my poor guy getting heartworms just so I don't waste my money, I'll buy more if I have to, I just wanted, if possible, to use the stuff I already have. I plan to call the vet in the morning to see, I just wanted to see if I could get some opinions from you guys about it for now.

it probably is safe, but probably won't be strong enough if you give him just one. maybe you can ask your vet if you can just double the dosage (i.e. two pills)? That would make the most sense since the next stage is 26-50lbs (what my corgi is on).. and 11-25lb range is just about half.. .... - I think people even do something similar with flea drops like Frontline (buy large doses and split it into smaller doses).

good luck!!!

if that doesnt work out.. try selling the remainder on ebay!
I actually bought them online, I didn't buy them from the vet, so I don't think I can exchange them.
Its probably fine. Even though the pill says 11-25lbs you can break them in half to increase the dosage so it goes into the next weight division. We get the heavier weights and then break the tabs in half so its not as costly. Your getting more for your money. Advise w/your vet of course.
