Corgi not excited over Food....need some advice please.

Our Max is 6 months and he just sniffs his food and ignores it. We have noticed that after a few weeks (days sometimes) he gets "tired" of his food and is not excited. I believe he just may be a picky eater but would like to get some opinions or advice. When we got first him we started him off with Halo Puppy Food but then he got tired of that one. So after a few weeks we slowly changed to Solid Gold Puppy Food. He recently got tired of that one as well. He just goes to the bowl sniffs and walks away. He will eventually eat it if we sit with him and encourage him. So we are starting to switch to Welnness Super5Mix but he is not excited with that one either and we have not even fully switched yet. I am trying to stick to natural dog food that have good ingredients (good rating) and tryiong to stay away from corn/ fillers because I've read that they can be bad for the dog. I know there are 6 star dog foods (INOVA, EVO, etc.) that are better than these 5-star but I think most are hard to find and contain too much protein for a puppy. We occassionally give him treats (training) but nothing that will spoil his appetite. Also, have heard you can mix can food, cottage cheese, yogurt etc. with the food but not sure if he will become even MORE picky if I start doing that.

Do I just have to continue my search for a food that he gets excited about eating? Any advice or opinions on this matter would be great. Thanks!

This. When I was doing the puppy/adult/sample food shuffle mine was very picky. Now after a pretty strict sit-by-and-eat regiment, I have a hoover too, just like everyone else has been talking about!
Thanks for the advice everyone. I will try sticking with the Solid Gold Puppy Food. He always has plenty of energy and had a soft, shiny coat. On another note, Max was grinding his teeth last night and this morning a tooth fell out!. lol It's his first tooth (that we've seen) fall out. Maybe he will get some money under his pillow for some more dog food. lol
We have been having the EXACT same issue with 5 1/2 month-old, Colby, for a few weeks! He eats Wellness Just for Puppy and loved it at first, now he won't eat it.

To deal with this we have tried leaving out food all day, which led to him only eating a few bites all day and eating almost two cups at 10 PM, which leads to a crazy, frapping puppy at bedtime. We have also tried giving him ten minutes with the food, then putting it up. After a week of that schedule, he wasn't eating more frequently and he even threw up yesterday because there was nothing in his stomach.

We had gotten several samples of Taste of the Wild because we're planning to switch him to a grainless diet once he's an adult and our local pet store recommended it strongly. We let him try this food and he LOVES it! So, we got their lowest protein content flavor (Pacific Stream, 25% protein) and we're going to try a week of mixing it half-and-half with the Wellness. We tried for the first time this morning and he actually seemed excited to eat for the first time in a long time! But, we'll see how that goes for the rest of the week.

But, it is so nice to hear that other people have gone through this! We have been worried and frustrated and didn't realize that this was a relatively normal thing. Thanks for starting this thread!
Both Josie and my boxer can be picky eaters, but it is true, they will not starve themselves. We (humans) make them picky eaters, so I have been told by several dog trainers and vets / vet techs, by catering to their every whim of wanting to try a new kibble. However, I admit I am as guilty as everyone else, and worry when they don't eat so I have tried several foods as well. Better they be a bit picky than become over weight!!
Like someone else mentioned the feeding schedule is REALLY important. Put that food bowl down for 15 minutes and if its not eaten within those 15 minutes pick it up until the next feeding time. Your dogs gonna learn thats the only time his foods avalible and he better eat it or else he's not going to have a chance to!
We have the same problem!! They need to see you as the food provider! don't keep changing brands until he will eat his kibble! He will defiantly become a MORE picky eater if you keep changing food on him! Because every time he doesn't want to eat the food you'll just change it or add something so he's just going to wait around for something better from you guys. We stuck with 1 kind of food until we go Mochi to eat the kibble finally when we got her to get her to eat her kibble, we will change brands now but only because to give her different sources of primary protein not because she won't eat it.

I defiantly recommend the schedule feeding. Don't worry he won't starve himself!! He will submit sooner or later and recognize you as the care giver!
