Does anyone else have a corgi that has watery eyes/conjuctivitis persistently?? Not the typical watery eyes that some of the other dogs are prone to... rather it is watery and red...
I dont think its allergies...
And I have eye drops for the conjunctivitis... which seem to help with the symptoms, but then it seems to return a few days later!

Im worried bc I know Corgis have eye problems...
Im trying to squeeze an appointment to the vet tomm....
I just wanted to see what the rest of the Corgi owners think.

THANKS

It may be wise to find a canine opthamologist in your area. While your regular vet can make a general diagnosis often an opthamologist can get to the root of the problem much quicker. One condition that could cause what you are speaking of is "distichias" (sp) This is a condition when eyelashes are present in third eyelid, unseen by the naked eye. This causes a constant irritation on the eye of the dog causing watering and sometimes will scratch the eye. These can be removed. Best of luck and hope you find the source of your problem.
My collie has a malformed tear duct. During the fall and spring when there are the most allergens around, her eye drains constantly and gets really red and inflamed. I don't really have any other advice other than to get to the vet when you can, which you're already doing. If they think you need to see a specialist, they should be able to recommend, but our vet was able to test for collie eye anomoly and a few other things, so it's probably worth checking with your regular vet first before spending the higher price on a specialist.
Bear has had conjunctivitis a couple of times. He actually has it again NOW. This time it isn't the pus type, but the clear, reddish type you mentioned. I wondered about allergies this time, as we just moved, but my current vet says that he would have skin reactions, not eye reactions, in that case. He says one of Bear's lower lids is inflamed (I saw it, too).

My vet says not to use anything with steroids if there is any sort of damage to the eye. Only he did appear to have a small scratch one time, though. He prescribes Triple Antibiotic Ointment (Neomycin and Polymyxin B Sulfates and Bacitracin Zinc Opthalmic Ointmnent USP). Luckily, we can go months without another bout, but I do use the medication 2 x a day for a full ten days. I wash gently around his eye and smear some medication on the outside where the tear tracks are, as well.

Hope this helps, I know it always make me worry!
i have the same problem with Bibi, we know it's not conjunctivitis (sp) because we'll treat her for that and the watery condition just comes back. my vet recommended putting drops called "fake tears" in her eyes, she said that some dogs son't have enough tears to keep their eyes soothed, so they get irritated and respond to that with watery eyes. I haven't tried it you, i just have to get the stuff from the store and i'll let you all know how it goes.
I'm reviving this old thread because I'm flipping out....little Bear had some extra goop in his eyes last night and they looked a little bloodshot - then today we went outside and he looked like a little Siamese puppy - squinting. Luckily I have a great vet and when I called she asked me to bring him right in...

She gave him a shot of anti-inflammatory and wants to see him tomorrow. She said his eyes were darting a lot which could either be the discomfort of the conjunctivitis OR A NEUROLOGICAL ISSUE!!! My vet has never seemed to be the type to over-react before so I'm a little flipped.

We're doing the drops, which of course he hates but overall he's still acting like himself. I don't know if I really need more info or just empathy.......
