did you have to wake up in the middle of the night every night to go take him/her out? Right now I take him out at around 10:30 11, before i go to bed, my girlfriend gets home around midnight most nights and she takes him out before she goes too sleep at 1am. should we be getting up in the middle of the night to bring him out or will he make it through the night till i wake up at 6am?

How old is the puppy? I never had to take mine out in the middle of the night, well maybe once, but I used a crate and I think I was lucky on top of it.

Also, what time of the night do you "cut him off" as in... do you limit the amount of water he gets after a certain time? I tried to limit the amount of water my dog drank after about 8:00 pm.
I agree. Try no water after eight, take out for potty at 10:30, and again at one. I would bet your puppy can make it from 1 until 6. That's just five hours, and if there hasn't been water for a while, I bet he can hold it. Keep him in the crate at night while your potty training. It definitely helps.
I saw that your pup is 2 months old. When my girl was 3 months old, I let her out before I went to bed whenever it was and usually got up about twice in the night. Say if I fell asleep at 10pm I would let her out then and she was really good in her crate and would scratch at the door to let me know and it was usually about 2am and then again at 5 or 6 am.

And like Becka and Ginny said, limit his water or completely cut him off at 8 or 9pm. Good luck with the training!!
I got Freya at 6.5 weeks. I was awake every few hours. She would let me know when she needed to get out of her crate. At 8 weeks she would only wake up at least 2 times a night. When she figured out how to use the doggie door, she just slept free and goes to the potty as she needs.

If your puppy is sleeping through the night, then it may make things easier. If not, you may have to wake up every few hours.Limit water and food a few hours before bed and that should help some.
Bear is 12 weeks old - got him when he was 7 weeks old. We go to bed at 9:30 and get up at 5am...the first night we had him, he cried at about 11:30 or so - but since then he's been able to go all night. Now, when we go out at 5am, he pees for about a minute straight.
