I'm new to the Corgi thing. How often should you bathe a Corgi? Do you use the stuff you buy in a pet store, or does gentle people shampoo work?

We bathe the kids about every two weeks. We use an oatmeal shampoo from PetSmart but Patti has a concoction of essential oils she mixes in. They do a good job of keeping their skin and coat in condition, as well as treat for fleas. Don't use people shampoos as the ph balance isn't good and they contain a lot of detergent that can dry out the skin.

I'm curious what everyone else does, too.
I bathe the dogs at least once a year, whether they need it or not. Usually, after a wet hike, I just take them into the shower with me and rinse them off. Be wary of human shampoos, which may have conditioners and things which we like in our hair but really mess up dog fur, and disgusting floral scents which dogs might like as much as we like Essence of Dead Rat. I'd think, hey, just simple soap, like Dr. Bronner's, no scents, no fancy stuff.
Make sure you wash it all off. This might be a real issue if you have hard water.
Remember, they can't give you detailed feedback about the soap/shampoo and what it does to their skin.
Make sure the dogs have access to something dead to roll in immediately after bathtime; this seems important to them.
I'm with John...my Corgis do not get very many baths. Leo just does not like it and I don't have the strength to force it on him too often. I did get the rapid bath system which makes bathing him easier than any other way I've tried. The shampoo cartridges that came with it are good and rinse out very well.
Shippo gets a bath once a month and I use Buddy Wash shampoo and Buddy Rinse conditioner.
Ditto to this.
I wash her once a week with a homemade scentless castile soap. My mom has a strong aversion to 'doggy' smell, and I take didi lots of places other than my home, so she has to stay super clean. Her skin does get a little dry sometimes. When it does I put a dog conditioner on her and let her stew in it for ab 4-5 minutes before rinsing her.
I don't ever use dog odor-get-rid-of-er-perfume-spray anymore because she hates it, so she gets the whole bath now when she smells, or when my mom imagines that she smells.
I gave Tucker a bath when I first got him over 2 months ago (used some all natural dog shampoo) and he hasn't gotten one since. Just doesn't seem to need one. He will be covered in mud/dirt and 30 minutes later he looks all clean and shiny again. Actually when I walk him people comment on how clean he looks. Their coats really do seem to repel dirt. He doesn't smell either. We do brush him frequently. As soon as he starts getting stinky he will be getting scrubbed down.
Don't use people shampoo on dogs -- our skin is slightly different, and dog shampoo is much gentler and better for them (I have that Buddy Wash stuff, too). That said -- my dogs go for a good bath/deshedding at the groomers twice a year, spring and fall (mostly because when they really blow their coats, I can't keep up and the house gets knee deep in furballs). In between, I don't really worry about it, unless they really roll in something too gross for words -- then they get a quick shower/rinse. The only things I worry about are clipping their nails regularly and keeping their teeth clean. We are out and about a lot, in the woods daily, swimming in streams, rolling in sand, dirt and poop, and my experience has been that regular brushing (I like the furminator, myself) controls the shedding and also gets rid of the dirt. Their fur is so thick, dirt doesn't often work its way to the skin! Plus, as John W says -- immediately after bathing, they rush to roll in some good essence of poop/dead squirrel/skunk, to return to the doggy smell they prefer!
I haver never bathed Kitty~who is,now,2yrs. old.She does enjoy swimming in the river, during the summer and that does clean her up,some.Otherwise, she is quite clean and brushing with the furminator helps, too.
About once a month. I try not to bathe her too much if possible because it dries out her skin. We use Wags Wheatgrass Shampoo. It has wonderful ingredients:

Coconut base shampoo, WHEATGRASS (5%), Aloe Vera, Raspberry Extract, (natural cleanser), Papaya extract, Mango extract, Wheat protein, Chamomile.
That shampoo sounds wonderful. Where do you get it??
We buy ours at our local pet store but I think you can buy it online as well. Try Googling "Wags dog shampoo". It's a green bottle.
