Has anyone ever taken their dog to this Camp Bow Wow? I took my dogs there for a day and to stay overnight. Check this link out, seriously. I am FLOORED.

They are the nicest people. They genuinely cared about Maggie and Little Bear and made sure they and I were comfortable. They are kind and funny and they have the greatest facilities. They gave me a tour of the whole place and showed me how everything works so I felt all right about where my kiddos were staying.

They take them outside and play with them for a couple hours a day a few times a day in the yard. Where in normal boarding, dogs just sit in a kennel all day bored out of their minds and only get to play around when they're taken outside to pee, these people PLAY. There are webcams where you can check up on what they're up to.

I cannot say enough. They are AWESOME. They spend individual time with each dog and they might be a little expensive but SO worth it. I picked them up at 9 this morning and they are both SNORING. Exhausted doesn't even begin to cover it.

It was $60 for both of them overnight but I will never take them anywhere else. They are nice people and they took the time to get to know all three of us. It was funny. People would come in to pick up their pets and they'd just immediately know who's dog was theirs and even give them a play by play of everything they had been up to for the last day. And they're open 365, even on Christmas.

If you have one around you, TAKE THEM THERE. They have doggy day care, too. You will be happy as a clam, and your dogs won't want to leave, lol!

I'm so glad you liked Camp Bow Wow! I haven't tried it because it's too expensive, but I've been to some other daycares/cage-free boarding facilities that are the same and just love it!
I used to work there and I miss it. I was able to take Shippo to work with me, and we met other corgis there. I was always thrilled when a new corgi customer would come in.
I'm thinking about applying to work there. What sorts of things did you do daily? What did you like and dislike? Thanks for any info!
Things I did daily: Management and supervision of dog play groups, remembering ALL dogs' names each day (whether there were 10 dogs or 75), cleaning of all play yards (1-3 times per day depending on the individual franchise), cleaning of any kennels needing it, feeding of all dogs (breakfast/lunch/dinner) based on individual dog, administering any meds some dogs might need, bathing, brushing, nail trims, checking dogs in and out (using computer system), breaking up any dog fights that occur without injuring myself, administering first aid on dogs (sometimes there is blood), scooping poop, taking out trash, answering phone. And that's just the things I remember lol.

What I liked: Being able to interact with dogs all day, being able to bring my own dogs to work, free of charge, being able to work with a team of dog lovers, being able to help customers at times.

What I disliked: Some co-workers were not what I would call competent, and for some reason never got in trouble for (honestly) SUCKING at their job.

The owner of a Camp Bow Wow franchise DOES NOT have to know ANYTHING WHATSOEVER about dog training or behavior in order to obtain their own facility!!! All they do is go through a short course run by corporate. I know this because a lady bought ours and she knew SQUAT, and NOTHING I said, NO suggestions I made for improvement of the dog handling methods or the facility itself made any kind of difference to her. I have a sneaking suspicion that the franchise I worked at will be going under soon, partially because of this.

Keep in mind that if you work at one of these places, despite what you learn in the training videos, or from the annual corporate employee training, you WILL most likely be using spray bottles and air horns as aversives on the dogs. You WILL be required to yell at them, even if NOT YELLING works better, and you WILL be man handling them. It seems that most well-established franchises (at least the ones around here) tend to stray from their corporate handbook quite a bit (and pointing that out to them is a MAJOR no-no BTW).

Despite all this, it was a decent job most of the time. I'm only bitter about it because I cared so much for the dogs there and how they were treated, and also because I got close to many of the people there. In the end, the economy won, and I was laid off. :(
Thanks so much for all the information! I'll have to think carefully about applying. I'm not sure if I can yell at the dogs or be aggressive at all with them. It's really unfortunate that positive reinforcement isn't more highly regarded. I tend to care for any animal as my own, and I'd probably be the one expressing my disapproval of the treatment. I totally understand being bitter because you actually care. Well, you've given me lots to think about. Thanks again, and I'm sorry your story had a sour ending,
When you apply at a place, I would just make sure that they follow their corporate policies strictly. If they do then you shouldn't have a problem. Sorry for my rant! =^^;=
oh wow, that's scary! those dogs are all lucky that they had someone like you there to be compassionate and give them lovins.

i got lucky. these people were just great. maybe i got super lucky and found that one in a million place to keep forever.
Yay!!! They are going to open one in Orlando, FL!!!
I worked for two Camp Bow Wows. I was working at Camp Bow Wow, El Cajon (San Diego) www.campbowwow.com/elcajon when they opened their doors and I absolutely loved it. The owners, Mark & Connie are amazing and genuinley do care about every dog that walks in that door. They train their staff well and run the place perfectly.
Then I moved to Colorado and Worked at their Boulder Camp, the first of the CBW franchise. www.campbowwow.com/boulder Let me tell you, I would not leave my dog there for thirty seconds. They are the closest camp to their Corporate office, which is an absolute wreck of idiots, and the owner, Sue, knows nothing about dogs. She lies to cover up her own mishaps, does not follow CBW corporate rules, OR Colorado state law. Corporate doesn't do a damn thing about anything that happens at any of their camps, and doesn't have a handle on anything.
Over Christmas last year about 20 dogs came down with a mystery illness. They were ALL hospitalized. After 6 dogs in a week are taken out sick, Colorado state law requires a facility to close their doors for 48 hours and have a serious deep cleaning of everything. The owner of the facility didn't do that, didn't call owners whose dogs were in the hospital on IV fluids, and definately did not turn away business or even warn customers about what was happening so they could use their own disgression. I PERSONALLY called corporate, as I was furious over what was going on, and they did absolutely nothing. Didn't so much as send out an FYI email to the customers in the database. The vet caring for all these sick animals was lied to, owners were lied to, and corporate couldn't care less about the whole situation.
SOME of the staff were amazing, but the majority of them were awful.
Luckily, I moved out of state three weeks later and while some CBW's are great, keep in mind if anything happens, their corporate office doesn't care.
Never again will I work for a chain daycare. Ever. They're all more concerned about the status of their pocketbooks, and not about the well-being of the dogs.
Does anyone have any info on the one in Dallas? I just recently applied to work there.
