My puppy is 10 months old and everyonce and awhile he gets this limp in the front. It is not all the time, just random. I dont know if it could be just growing pains or something, what do u think?

Will it be possible for you to video tape it when it happens? It might be easier to tell what is going on.
Our dog was 7 mos. old when we got him. He had a limp too, not all the time, but every once in awile. Esp. after running a lot and being tired. The vet took xrays and thought it was protein deposits in his cartiledge on his front right leg. His owner had fed him lots of food high in protein and he grew quickly.

But, the vet could not do the surgery since he didn't have the tools and gave us the number of a surgeon who would take care of Duke's leg. After the surgeon took x-rays, he saw something different. Duke had a short limb. Not sure of the bone names, but I think the carpus was short and not reaching the metacarpus. The ball at the end of the carpus would not touch the socket at the metacarpus. So, the surgeon had found something completely different than the vet did.

We trusted the surgeon. He said Corgis, and many dogs with short legs and long bodies have this problem and it is common. We got Duke in immediately, it was pricey, about $1K, but well worth it because he was uncomfortable and he loves to run and jump too much to take that away from him. He had to be off his leg for about 6 weeks or so, but now he has no limp and is doing great!

You should really check it out and maybe take him to a vet/surgeon to have an xray done to determine why he is limping. And getting pet insurance would really help if expensive. We wished we had done that, I hear it really does help.
Hope your baby gets better soon!
Some dogs do get a condition called panosteoitis which pretty much equates to growing pains. Lots of corgi folks think taking the pups off of puppy food at this age may be helpful as it lowers the protien level and doesnt encourage the pup to grow quite so fast. The other thing that sometimes happens is premature plate closure. Sometimes one of the bones continues to grow when another has stopped. This can cause lameness and disfigurement in the leg. I think this would be a good time to have your pup in for a good evaluation of this leg.
Yes. Premature plate closure. That sounds like what my Duke had. Definitely would be good to get it checked out.
Pooka seems to have this too. I think its growing pains. Recently something more severe happened. I woke up at 6AM to a yelp and to find her not putting weight on her left front foot at all. Vet couldn't find anything with a physical exam, gave her some pain pills. She still has it 4 days later. When she's on the pain pills, she is ok to walk, but still limps. But she had the same thing you're describing on and off for weeks before. Vet didn't seem worried about that and said only really needed to come in if something acute happened, like with Pooka.
Midas used to get muscle strains after a good run or playing with other dogs. We did x-rays because his limping kept seeming to get worse each time it came back. It's always good to get those things checked out. Anyways, we ended up keeping his activity limited, putting heat on the area, stretching before all play, and three 10min massages daily. It worked, every time he's gotten a limp that's what we do. God luck, I hope your pup feels better. I know its hard to see them like that. Midas sends kisses!
Mickey developed the same thing and has had it for 6 days now :( He doesnt seem to be in pain though but I am worried. I just switched his food but I dont think that could be it could it??
