Brody visited the Vet this week, and she found Crystals in his urine (for the 2nd time). She recommended that we switch his food formula to Prescription Science Diet C/D dry dog food formula, which is supposed to help regulate this problem, avoiding the likelihood that renal stones will develop later on. I previously had him on Nutro's Oatmeal & Chicken formula, which we've been very happy with.
I have followed the Vet's recommendations, and started mixing Brody's prior formula with the new "presecribed" food immediately, but have several concerns that have not been answered or addressed completely, therefore I am presenting them to all of you, my fellow members of MyCorgi.com. I like and trust our current Vet VERY much, but still have some lingering doubts.....
1. I have been told by several breeders and other dog professionals that Prescription Science Diet is "CRAP", meaning that it is stocked with "fillers" that do not have much nutritional value...who out there uses this type of dog food, and do you find it to be high or low quality? I've compared the ingredients............
2. Will the quality of Brody's coat worsen after making this change? Right now he has a beautiful, soft and shiny coat.
3. Is there another brand that is equal to that of the prescribed formula, that is cheaper in cost???? This new food costs around $27.00 for a 10lb bag!
4.Anyone else out there had to deal with this Urine Crystals issue? And, if so...what were your Vet recommendations? Did they resolve the problem?
Brody & I would greatly appreciate any info, suggestions or lessons from your experiences and knowledge. We look forward to hearing back!!!!
