Hello everyone,

I know that this dog is not a corgi, but please sign the petition below and help fight animal cruelty.
Here is Buddy's story:
On December 30, 2009 between 2:18 am and 4:30 am a German Shepherd named Buddy was dragged to death at the Colorado National Monument. Joan Anzelmo, superintendent of the monument, identified the suspect as Steven Clay Romero, 37, of Grand Junction.

She said Romero is alleged to have stolen the dog — Buddy, a German shepherd-blue heeler mix — from people in Delta. He allegedly took the dog to the Colorado National Monument early Wednesday, tied the dog to his truck and dragged the dog. Paw prints in the snow were found to show Buddy at first walking, then running, then dragging, for 3 miles. A surveillance video showed a truck entering the monument at 2:18 am with a dog in the bed of the truck, it showed the same truck leaving at 2:30 with no dog. Witnesses said Romero said he was going to kill the dog, another said he saw Romero leave the residence with the dog.
Romero faces one count of aggravated cruelty towards animals. If convicted, the penalty is a maximum of three years in federal prison and a fine of $100,000, and one year of mandatory parole.

Anzelmo said she believes additional charges may be filed against Romero.

The goal of this group and petition is to see to it that Steven Romero spends every single minute of those three years in jail and a fine of $100,000 plus the one year of mandatory parole.

Should there be any sympathy towards Mr Romero, let me add one thing. According to the Grand Junction Daily Sentinel on Dec 31st, Romero was quoted as saying:
“I don’t get it,” he said, sitting alone at the defendant’s table. Assistant U.S. Attorney Michelle Heldmyer then rose from her seat, walked toward Romero and tossed a copy of the charges on the table in front of him.

Heldmyer told U.S. Magistrate Judge Laird Milburn she will ask for Romero’s continued detention during Monday’s hearing.

“So, in other words I’ll be sitting in jail and probably lose my job, too?” Romero asked Milburn.

“Yes,” the judge responded.

I know that this site is full of animal lovers like me. I cried after I read this, and signed my name to the petition. Please help get justice for poor innocent Buddy, whos life was taken so horribly.

That is awful! There are too many stories like this and it makes me sick. I think it takes a mentally disturbed person to be so cruel. Makes me want to become a vigilante and take care of it myself. I'll definitely sign.
I like your style!
I don't think this person should spend the entire time in jail if they show that they are properly reformed at a point before then. I will pray that he gets the mental healthcare he desperately needs. No happy, well adjusted person can hard someone's furkid in this way. He must really be sick.
I agree that he needs help, he doesn't seem to realize what he did was very wrong. I hope that one day he will get the help he needs. I just pray that Buddy has made it over the rainbow bridge where he can never be hurt again
The fact that he doesn't know what is wrong is a sign he needs help, not a sign that he is unlikely to be helped, or needs more punishment.
His needing help is obvious, as for what price he should have to pay I think he should get the maximum sentence just as I would want someone who killed a person to receive. If it were somehow accidental that would be a different story but this was premeditated. There is no excuse for that. He made a choice when he took that dog out there and we all have to be held accountable for our actions. It would be too easy for him to act reformed just to get off the hook. It's not just the fact that he tortured and killed a dog that troubles me, it's what implications this may have. To take a life is a serious indication of mental illness which is why it has been found that many murderers and serial killers had a history of animal abuse. Some of these illnesses are never really cured and should never be taken lightly.
I also think he should get more than 3 years but since we are not about to change our flawed judicial system, we'll have to hope he gets the 3 years and the fine and hope it does some good. I don't know how anyone could look at the situation and think that this guy deserves any less than that. Just reading this left a bad taste in my mouth for days. I passed it on to everyone I know and even though some said they wished I hadn't sent it to them because it's too sad I made sure they signed it. Avoiding sad things does not make them go away. Buddy and his family deserve more than that. If this were me and my dog I would want to feel the support of others and to know that there are good people left to help me fight.
This is absolutely heinous. I have signed, and placed an awareness on my facebook site. Hopefully he gets what he deserves, which in my eyes, should be the death penalty.
This is just hearbreaking.....totally incomprehensible to me that a human being can be so cruel. No punishment is harsh enough for this heinous act! If this had happened to one of my beloved dogs, I would be inconsolable & would have to be sedated or worse. I am not able to understand man's inhumanity to man, much less man's inhumanity to a defenseless creature as beautiful as this dog. May Buddy rest in peace among the angels!!
Signed! Mental or not, he is still accountable for his actions. Poor Buddy! He didn't deserve to go through this, to this horrible end.
I signed and sent it to 6 or so others that I hope will sign also!

I agree with you Alice!
I signed this petition for Buddy and sent it to my friends to sign. The fact that this guy is so cruel and cold makes me think he is dangerous. He should be locked up!! I certainly Demand Justice for Buddy!!! Thank you for bringing this to our attention. Teresa G.
