O boy, here we go again, another food topic    ^_^

I recently came across an ad for Rotations Dog Food. I wrote to them to request a sample and they sent me a 6 pound box (three 2# bags) which arrived in only one day!

Could some of you with more expertise in dog food look over their concept and ingredient list and tell me what you think? Sidney is on Wellness and he's doing great on it...it's just that he is picky and leaves a lot of his Wellness kibble behind in favor of stealing one of the other dogs' less healthy foods. Then Bruce (my senior dog) manages to sneak upstairs and eat Sidney's Wellness! It's like nobody eats the food they are supposed to! I thought if I could find a good quality kibble that Sidney would eat right away and avoid this "musical chairs" approach to dinner.

I'd appreciate any insight. Thank you! What I can say so far is this company has great customer service.

Orijen is VERY high per calorie (yes, I am that much of a geek). I've stomped my feet about it many times but it's the best grain-free food for my crew. I've tried almost all of them (since we use grain-free when traveling or when we have a sick dog that I don't want to challenge with raw) and I can get the best results with it. The dogs don't get that "kibble-fed" look when they're on Orijen; they're not as stacked as when they're on raw but it's not a huge difference.

So I grumble but I pay. But yes, it's ridiculously high.
Orijen is expensive, but I realized last night it's not as bad as I thought, at least not in my area. This month's budget is super tight so I went to the food store to see if I could get something decent for a little cheaper. I was surprise to see that the Instinct was the same price I pay for Orijen but at almost 10 full lbs less, and the Evo was the exact same price, the Red Meat was higher. Then again, none of the stores in my area sell it so I buy is from a guy who orders whole sale and then sells it to all his friends, so maybe he's selling it for cheaper.
The 6 pound box (three 2 pound bags) is $16; a 6 pound bag of Wellness (what we are feeding now) is about $14, so it is pretty close in price.

One thing I like are the individual bags. It stays fresher since I'll only open one 2-pound bag at a time.

According to the instructions, after you wean them away from their old food, you can just jump from one bag (flavor) to the next without transitioning. No need to mix different percentages. Anyway, we'll see. I'll give it a try. He digs it so far!
Hmm, I had to go double check something after you said that -- my boxes here all say the proper way to change the food over is to wait until the last quarter of the bag and mix in your second flavor. I wonder if they've changed the labels since then. Going to their website, I do see that in the FAQ's that they say you can just flip flavors - but trust me on this one, the boxes here and the brochures say differently. Wonder if this is first round packaging - very well could be.

Interesting...

Oh, hey, I totally understand that. If you have one small dog, then it would be fine and fairly cost effective. If you have a large dog, I don't think it's going to be quite as good of a bargain at the shelf price.

The biggest thing is -- if he likes it, looks good on it, and eats it well, it works for you both. :)
Thank you so much for your input, Shepdog! It's really interesting to hear something from your point of view. That's why I just love this site....so much knowledge! Thanks to all the rest of you that shared here too. :)
Our package arrived today, woohoo! And Ein and Brian seem to like it.
I got my free box of Rotations last week. It came in at the same time we got to the very bottom of our bag of Orijen, so I've been feeding the Rotations food for now to put off spending $60 on a new bag of food. =) The dogs seem to like it fine, but they like anything. Lyla is having some terrible gas though. She hasn't had gas since we switched to Orijen (always had it before that though), so it's not too pleasant to have it around again, lol! They'll be fine on it for 6 lbs worth, but I think we like our Orijen better still!!
