How to prevent heat stroke?

Hello friends! long time no talk! I am taking Dragster to the beach for the first time next weekend! He is excited. I know corgis can get hot quick because of their fur. Drag pants pretty quickly when in a hot area. I am wondering what i can do to take extra precautions to keep him hydrated. I will be taking a gallon of water or so with me to give him fresh clean water while at the beach. Any other suggestions?

Keep yourself and him in the shade when not in the water. Actively seek breaks, pay attention to his breathing. Water breaks 4 times an hour, offer him water repeatedly cause they will forget. k9 Sunscreen near the nose low fur area and undercarriage. Avoid middle of the day - 1 hr before sunset.

The water and shade are your friends here. And, as Sam said, pay attention to his breathing. i have one dog who is crazy for teh fetch game and will exhaust himself easily in our really hot Texas sun...so he has to take a break every few minutes and just sit and breathe. And when we're done, he get's hosed off completely so that being we will help him cool down, too.

It'll be tempting to avoid the water and sand combo at the beach, but just make sure he takes a break in the shade and stays wet for a while. Have fun!

will do! where can i get k9 sunscreen? he has a brown nose but my basset hound will need it. Vee, i also live in Texas and drag knows first hand about the heat here. Anything i can put on the pads of his paws to keep them from getting too hot?

i guess it wouldnt hurt to put it all over each dog just to be safe. Will it come out in the water? I saw this kind :http://www.petsmart.com/product/index.jsp?productId=3680762&kee... but i was thinking a gel might be better.

I know they make boots for all sizes of dogs but it seems overkill to me. At the beach, if his pads get too hot, my guess is he'll head for the edge of the water where the sand is wet or head for the shade himself. What beach are you heading for? :)
