I've had Archie for just over a month now, and everythings going really well. This weekend for the first time I'm going to be away from him overnight. My mom is spending the night at my house to "sit" both of the dogs, and I was just wondering if anyone thinks I should have any concerns, I should think about or tell her to keep an eye out for. The one thing I was thinking about is, when I take the dogs outside, Archie stays right with me in the backyard. But when my husband AJ goes out with him he likes to test his limits. Because he hasn't been around my mom as much, should I have her only take him out on a leash? There is a part of our backyard where if he wanted to run away from her he could. I hate to even go away yet, but I guess I can't be with him ALL of the time. Thanks Everyone.

I would most definitely say yes to keeping him on a leash!!! The risk of him taking off is too great. Especially if he thinks you may have left him behind! And since your mom is "new" to him chances are he may not come back to her. It's always better to be safe than sorry!
I agree, I would have her keep him leashed to be safe!
I had a family event pull me away my second week with Mira (so she was ten weeks old..) My parents watched her and she did GREAT with them, but they have two other puppy friendly dogs to keep her company. They took her out on a leash, and she was looking for my bf and I but she's also pretty independent so she wasn't flipping out.
My OTHER dog (3yo aussie mix) was at my best friend's house. That was a nightmare.
Hindsight being 20/20, I should have had a petsitter watch both of them together. But neither my bff nor my folks could take BOTH my dogs. So, looking at it from my 3yo's perspective: Mom gets a new baby puppy. Then mom leaves me. Then moms friend comes and takes me to a different house, and the puppy is not here. OMG MOM REPLACED ME!!!!!

He was a terror. :( I felt awful when I realized my mistake.

Sorry to tangent like that. Just want to make sure that if you ever have to have the dogs split up to be puppysat, that you can learn from my mistake!!
