Okay, we went a little crazy with Soffie. She is Soffie Blue Nana Svenska Flicka. Soffie, because that's the name we knew we wanted to call her. Blue from the book Blue Dog. Nana after the dog in the movie Snow Dogs (we know she wasn't a Corgi but ......) And Svenska Flicka to honor the Swedish heritage in the Corgi's history and because I'm 100% Swedish American.
By the time Griffyn came along, we were a little less "excentric" And he is Griffyn Soffie's Lil Brother. And she never let's him forget it!
Ofie's registered name is Ofelia de la Vega Rivera. I couldn't put the accent over the "e" in her name - the AKC doesn't do accents. But that's okay. Most people call her Ophelia (pr. O-fee-lia) when they see her name, when it's really pronounced the Spanish way (O-feh-lia). But it doesn't bother me at all. She responds to either anyway. "de la Vega" comes from Zorro, which I thought was appropriate given corgis' vulpine faces, and "zorro" being spanish for "fox." Also, she's a bit of a swashbuckler herself. :-) And Rivera comes from me.
I have non-conventional registered name. "Miss Liberty Star", the one dog show we did as a puppy, the people there would always hesitate before saying her name. The idea came from my mom, where her dog's name worked a little better. Her dog's name was Bridgette, her's Shannon, so the registered name was "Lady Bridgette of Shannon".
Hubby and I fell in love and married while grad students at the University of Kentucky. We lived on the university research farm which was known as Spindletop Farm, and it was a beautiful, sprawling former horse farm in Lexington. We used Spindletop for both dogs as well as names that were southern.
Junebug: Spindletop Summer Junebug
Elvis: Spindletop Blue Moon of Kentucky
Dally's registered name is Frontiers Honkytonkbadonkadonk OA, NAJ (the last part are her current AKC agility titles). The Frontiers part if in honor of my parents old kennel name (and our farm name), and my dad loves the song "Honky Tonk Ba Donk A Donk" and we call her bum a "ba donk a donk" because of her little sasahy. BIG name for such a small dog! :-)
I'm a big comic geek so, if any of you know who the superhero "Green Arrow" is, you'll find this amusing: Ollie's registered name is of course, Star City's Oliver Queen.
I call him whatever I want, though...awhile ago I called him "Lumpy Biscuit Man" for no reason whatsoever.
