Ok Atlas is year now, and since we had him as a 13wk old puppy his poops have been weird. The food he was on at the breeders made him very very gas (Aurthority) we switched him to Taste of the Wild since it was grain free and All Stage of life food (my Cattle Dog Mix was already on it) still a little gassy not overly soft poops, Merrick sames as TotW. He also ate his poop with these foods (I also know nutrient can cause this behavior, Pineapple fixed that problem) Then I switched to a freeze dried food solid poops no gas, Then I got a free bag of Blue Buffalo Basic to try (the Rep wanted to know if it helped with the gas since all kibble based foods made Atlas gassy) No Gas Solid poos. Every food switch I was on for at least 2 months did the slow switch over. (20/80, 50/50, 80/20)

So here's my problem I know dogs have to poo after waking up from long periods of sleep, After every meal or long training sessions. But he poops like 10+times sometimes a day. All the foods we're on Atlas should poop only 3-4 times a day Morning,Breakfast,Dinner. Sometimes its a normal size sometimes its a small broke pieces, its almost looks like bunny poop. Gives no signals no warning. I've taken him out for 6mins if he doesn't poop we go back inside then inside the crate wait 5 more mins repeat nothing a few times we've gone 2hrs with nothing happening. We've taken treats out on our walks give him jackpots for pooping outside nothing seems to be working. Please help!!!

I HAVE HAD A HARD TIME WITH FOOD ALSO. I FOUND ALL THE HOLLISTIC OR ALL NATURAL FOODS LIKE WELLNESS GAVE MY PUPPY HORRIBLE GAS JUST TO RICH FOR HER. I HAVE TIED SEVERAL AND ALL MAKE FOR REALLY LOOSE POOPS. I HAVE NOW PUT THEM ON EXCLUSIVE AND SEEMS MUCH BETTER I ALSO GIVE THEM PUMPKIN OR YOGURT EVERY DAY. THEY BOTH HELP THEIR TUMMIES.
Our Soffie is almost 5. She generally poos 3 times a day. Once in the morning but... AFTER she has eaten and only if she get's a walk. Again in the evening AFTER she has eaten and again while we're on a walk. And once more before we go to bed. That one she does in the back yard ( no walk necessary!! thank goodness!)

Griffyn .... on the other hand is a poop machine!!! He will be 4 in January. He will poo almost every time he goes out! Sometimes alot and other times just a few little pieces. They both eat the same food and the same amount. 1/4 cup in the morning and 1/4 in the evening of Wellness Core Reduced Fat.

I just think it is a difference in their metabolism. Soffie eats very slow and I think she probably digests her food slowly. Whereas Griffyn INHALES his food so I think it goes through him faster!!

I'm not entirely clear on whether you're saying Atlas has accidents in the house or his crate. But I think you maybe over reacting to his potty habits. And you could be stressing him if you're trying to hurry him. 6 minutes would never be enough time for Soffie, and if I try to hurry her along..... she will wait and wait and wait!!!

If the food you're feeding now seems to be agreeing with Atlas in so far that the gas problem is gone and his poos are solid then I'd say he's fine.
I don't want to be waiting outside for 15+ mins we live in a townhouse so we have no backyard. He doesn't do anything in his crate or the bedroom. But if hes already gone outside and we have him around the house he will poop randomly which is the annoying. Its not fair to him to keep him and our cattle dog mix in the office cause we can't figure out. cause he can go outside and 10 mins later he can poop
If his poo is like little bunny poo's it might be that he's constipated...it could be hard for him to go a normal amount. You could try adding carrots, green beens, or pumkin( not the pie filling kind) to his food that should help bulk up his poo and he should be able to have bigger one's that remove more at 1 time. Also feeding only twice a day should allow for bigger and less frequent poos.
We do feed twice a day. He finishes in less then 10 mins, I feed them using puzzle toys making them work for their food, The little bunny poops are normally the ones that are random not his morning, breakfast and dinner poops. So I don't think hes constipated.
Maybe you could try to exercise him first. Mine poo when walking at least 2 time's which makes me beleive that vigorous movement stimulates something. Does he poo more when he's outside for his walk more/less than your other pup ? Maybe a nice game of fetch or tug rope before potty breaks may help him ? However maybe this is just normal for Atlas to half to go alot. Have you thought about pad training him so if he does have to go at least it's in a pre-determined spot in your house?
he seems to have the same problem as teddy. sounds like he dosnt go all the way because some dogs just dont like to poop. when dogs poo they are in a vulnerable position and wait till the REALLY have to go. when he does poop make it a big deal like "yay!! u pooped good boy!!" dont get frustrated or anything. i have even found if i crate teddy when he dosnt poop he still will not go. he needs a lot of playing to get the bowels moving. but like like Judi said 6mins is not enough time and that could also be why he poops so little because he feels uncomfortable. i honestly wait about 20mins at times
Not sure if anyone cares but I did solve the problem it was the foods we were trying, We found a grain free POTATO free food, it was the potatoes that caused the extra poops we're on a new food called Nutrisca from Dogswell
A local Seattle company (Darwin's) delivers frozen bricks of ground raw meat to us every 5-6 weeks. They get about 1/2 c. of raw meat + 1/3 c. Wellness sweet potato & whitefish kibble (barley a major ingredient, read the fine print, sneaky) twice a day. Raw meat turds are hard, odorless, easy to clean up. We added the kibble to soften them just a bit, and reduce cost. The more kibble we add, the mushier and smellier they get. The kibble may also increase dog-breath. They poop on the morning walk and the evening walk, sometimes twice. Usually at least 5-10 min of walking is necessary to stimulate the bowel movement. Many poops a day is entirely outside our experience.

I'd think it's a fiber issue.  Either too much, or too little for his belly.
