I would feed Sally some plain canned pumpkin (not the pumpkin pie filling mix). If the first serving of pumpkin doesnt do it, give a little more. You could try starting with 2 tablespoons and if she doesnt go with that then add some to her next meal. I would also maybe play fetch with her after having the pumpkin, maybe the excercise plus the pumpkin will help her go. If you start to see loose stools while feeding the pumpkin you know you need to cut back the amount of pumpkin.

I have had to do this with our corgi as he also doesnt like to do anything more than pee when its rainy out. The pumpkin does help, I can count on him having to go after the pumpkin. Hope this helps you out.

You have 2 choices:

1. She will continue to hold until she starts to shake and cannot hold any longer and vomit = clean up inside for you.

2. Cowboy up and put her on a leash, walk her for at least an hour to unload 3 days worth of #2.

We no longer have that problem after Hurricane Charley, Francis and Jean in 2004, they can #2 in the rain / lightening / thunder / Cat 3 wind. Practice makes perfect :)

teddy for some time had this problem but i am a stub urn girl and i know that he needed to poop. i stood in the rain for two hours. it was lighting, raining super hard and the wind was un bearable but i walkd him around until he pooped. since that experience teddy will poop where ever he pleases lol do what sam said, just take her for a walk and keep walking her until she poops. not just one time but it will probably take some attempts to clean her out but i would 1st do what Natalie said so the pupmkin can do its thing and move everything along:)

Thanks! We called the vet and he said not to worry too much since the weather should be improving and Sally has a history of holding her #2. I will try some pumpkin. My husband and I tried the walk last night and we didn't get very far!! Flags blowing in the wind, people crushing cans, the Schwann truck delivering ice cream along with the wind and she was a nervous wreck! My husband usually can get her to move when she is scared but he even gave up! I will try again tonight and hopefully the wind will slow down!! Thanks all! I'll keep you posted! :)

on a different note it'd probably be a good idea to get her into some puppy classes to build her confidence. Being scared all the time is just no fun. Agility classes are great for building confidence and my class taught a lot of desensitization to loud noises and scary things as well. They also have classes specifically for nervous dogs which would probably help. Otherwise it's just going to be a LONG LONG fall and winter if she is too scared to go outside.

Good news, she finally went...lots. Melissa, I've thought about classes, she is my rescue who has been abused! We got her in December of last year and she is making lots of progress. Maybe in the spring I'll try classes, I don't she would do well just yet! She is now going up to people, even men when we take her up north with us. She is getting lots of practice with riding in a car and meeting new people. She handles dogs well and likes women better than men, but with lots of people not too good yet!
