I'm at the University of Texas getting my BS in neurobiology and hope to be headed to vet school after I'm finished with undergrad :) This has been my first semester with dogs and I was afraid it would be a lot of work but it really hasn't been. Its good to come home to excited corgis after being at class, haha

Hi everyone! I'm new to the group and I've had little Zoe for less than a week. I'm taking the GRE Saturday and it's been interesting taking care of a puppy whilst studying, but we're doing well. Although she keeps me busy, having Zoe offers me many much needed study breaks! I'm glad this group is around and I hope to get some handy tips concerning establishing balance between classwork and puppy work from you all! ; )

Welcome all the new members...sorry if I have been slacking on my group creator duties (whatever those may be:-) I am glad to see this group growing.

Hopefully you will all survive the semester and your corgis won't eat too many of your books :-) (I learned my lesson on that one)

I know with kids it helps build the therapeutic relationship. They will relate to the animal more, share their secrets with it, and trust it because the animal will love the child unconditionally - no matter what the child has done or been through. And due to that relationship it opens the child up to building one with the therapist.

It's really neat.

Welcome Krystle! Funny you mention that, i wrote a research paper last year on the effects pets have on relationships : ) Which ended up mostly therapeutic. Its a really interesting topic, i think pets will be brought in more and more to help patients all sorts. I wonder if having a pet in the room you do therapy in will relax and open the patients up more?
