I have been taking Milly to a dog park to get in some doggie fun time. I have heard of these wonderful parks but I don't think there are any in my city. The park we go to is sponsored by Purina and supposedly monitored by volunteers. There is nothing there to stimulate a dog but we do walk around the fenced area and meet up with others so that has been fine so far. Lately though, I have noticed that there is dog poop EVERYWHERE! The park is looking dirty. Yesterday there were two separate incidence where the owners saw their dog do the business but were supposedly in such deep conversation they just turned around and pretended not to see. It was very obvious. Another owner had a dog that threw up twice and made comments about how she is not feeling well the last few days so maybe some fresh air would be good. The third incident was a dog that had huge patches of hair missing on his body and the owners were saying that this is new and should probably go to the vet's soon! I couldn't believe it, this was in one short visit. Now I am worried about going back. I read online that there are incidents of lepto (sp?) in Mississauga where we live and that can be deadly. I plan to call the city today to report the hygiene in the park but what about the possible illness? How can dog lovers expose other dogs to illness knowingly? I don't want to avoid parks altogether and they are so far from where I live I have to make the effort and time to take Milly but I also don't want her to get ill.
