Percy had surgery this past September for a torn ACL. He was pretty much back to his old self. Then he went out potty yesterday, chased squirrels as usual and stopped short.  I don't have to be a vet to know that he blew the other ACL. I'm so bummed out about this.  I had an American Eskimo for 16 years and while she had her own health issues, she never had surgery. With these two Corgis we will be going on our 4th surgery in less than two years.  I hate seeing the boy in pain and I hate the thought of coming up with yet another large sum of money for surgery. Why can't the vet offer discounts for frequent visitors?  Agh!

What a shame. Unfortunately, a dog that has already torn their ACl is very likely to tear the other one too. This is true of all breeds. There are studies ongoing at a few universities to figure out why some dogs are more prone to this but I don't know of any results. Sorry you have to go through this again, my vet often gives me a slight discount but it has been 30 years of care. I like to say I paid for my kids college as well as his.

I'm going through the same thing. Sammie just had her first ACL surgery two weeks ago and will be having surgery on the other leg after this one heals. She tore hers just months apart and she's only 1yr.

I hear ya!  We made it two years before Seanna tore her other one.  She was in Kansas at my husbands grandparents ranch, and took off really fast to tell the cows to quit sticking their heads through the fence.  She came back limping and periodically not putting weight on that leg, just toe touching.  I was like you- my husband said she just sprained it, and my response was that I didn't need to be a vet to know she tore it.  On a good note, the second recovery was WAY better than the first.  She seemed to know what to do, what was expected, and didn't seem half as painful as the first.
