I was just wondering! I give my dogs an egg a week or so but I was wondering how that works if feeding a raw diet! Thanks!

Hi Lynne,

Thanks for your input...I am usually a big label reader but never thought of this. I now get liquid calcium from the vet for my new moms and that's all it is. Eclampsia is a serious condition that can affect new moms if their calcium gets low and can lead to seizures and even death. I caught Bella very early when she was just acting strange but my vet said that usually it's a "middle of the night" emergency! Have you thought about joining the environmentally friendly corgi group since you use organic???
Hi Jane, I found your reply :)
That's a good idea. Since Sally has had so many issues I have found many things that work for her without the side effects! I don't only use organic but I will check out what is available for some things to use. Have you ever had any issues with you corgis be put under for surgeries? Sally has almost died at least twice that I know of and she needs her teeth cleaned so I have really be looking into what else I can do.
That's really good to know that we should do extra research on people saying "DONT DO THIS" just to be sure stupid people don't do stupid things.
Yes, the Nature's Variety medalions are relatively small. A corgi would probably need between 4-6 of them in a day to get enough food, depending on your particular dog and his/her needs. NV does make patties about the size of a hamburger and you generally only have to feed one of those.

Do you have access to any other of the complete/balanced raw diets? Bravo is my favorite. NV is certainly okay, but I don't love that it uses 2-3 different meats in the "lamb" raw (or the chicken or the rabbit, etc. They all use more than one protein source, Bravo uses just one). I also, personally am very turned off by the smell and the coloring. However, NV is the only raw available in my city so I always keep a package of the raw patties on hand in case I run out of my Bravo and can't make a 2 hr trip to go buy more.

If you want to make your own raw I suggest doing a lot of reading into canine nutrition and working with a good holistic vet. I use "The Holistic Guide to a Healthy Dog" like it's the bible. There is a good recipe in there for a homemade raw, which is cheaper than the premade raw, but is much more involed. I am not really one for keeping animals organs in my freezer. I might get there one day, but right now I'm happy with my premade raw and holistic, grain-free kibble diet. I do think, however, if you're going to do homemade food, it is important to be working with a vet to make sure your dog is getting everything they need. The problem is finding a vet who doesn't try to scare you out of feeding raw. I just now finally found a vet that is willing to work with me on how I want to feed (I found him on the AHVMA website). He did say that he recommends all of his clients that feed a homemade food to add a Centrum Silver vitamin.
I think it's a texture thing....gooey!!!! Mine are use to it now but my Aussie still looks at me like "what am I suppose to do with this?"
It's been on the news for the last couple of days, there's a massive recall going on right now. Sunny side up with runny yolk is my favourite :(

Glad I have free range chiuckens:)
I feed three times a week, the orange raw and i mircowave the whites for 10 seconds until they are thickers. I was told my a lady I worked with who studied raw intesively that this is the best way to do it.
Thanks alynne! I will have to try this!
I give my boys raw eggs shell and all, is that ok or should I boil them?
