Are your Corgi's 'famous'?? Does this ever happen to you? :)

This is more a curiousity question, as I have experienced this seeming 'phenomenom' where people will just have to run up to me and my dogs and ask what kind of dogs they are, or want to tell me all about their friend who had one, or how they love them, etc

Is it just me, or does the general public just have a huge curiousity and fascination about the Corgi?

I see hundreds of dogs, and never (ok, maybe once or twice) have the urge to run up to someone and ask about their dogs... as much as I love animals.

I think it is really neat personally, but just curious what others have experienced with their Corgis. Does this happen to ALL dog owners regardless of breed? I have only ever owned Corgi's personally, so maybe I am just naive?

Some of the things that have happened to me:

A motorcyle stopped in the middle of the road while I was walking Rowdy one day, the biker parked his bike, took off his helmet, and just HAD to say hello to Rowdy. He just couldnt help himself!

I have had cars yell to me and call me over (some have even parked and came over) and ask what type of dogs those are?! And then proceed to tell stories, or look in wonderment at my puppies.

People will slow down when I have Lilo in the front yard and just smile and wave and look at her... or yell out how cute she is.

When I bring Lilo to Petsmart people seem fascinated with her, "Oh look! It's a CORGI!" and all of the workers always want to play with her (granted I know it is their job to be friendly.)

I was walking my dogs past the cadillac dealership and a couple that was at the service center asked if they could come see my dogs for a moment...

I dont see any other breed specific social networking sites.... lol... although I havent really looked! ha ha

So I wanna hear others stories... of their 'famous' corgi's!  :)

Yes, this happens to me all the time in Taiwan too. People wants to pet and play with Yoda all the time. When I am at the red light, and Yoda is poking his head out of the window, a lot of the people riding on scooter would say hi to him even pet him. When the light is turning green, I have to look that no one is playing with him before I take off!
Thats hilarious! I'd be afraid Lilo would jump out if I let her hang her head out the window... LOL :)
When Casey was a pup, this guy pulled his car over on the side of the road, got out and ran after Casey and I while we were walking to gush about her and ask what breed she was.

Every time we go to the dog park, people gush about how happy she looks - I hear people talking amongst themselves "look at that cute corgi! What a happy little corgi! That dog is SO CUTE!?!" etc. I've had people come across the dog park (which is about the size of 2 or 3 football fields [CND football fields]) to see her and ask me about her.

I actually had a woman, who met Casey while walking her schnauzers at the dog park, tell me the next time we saw her, that she had told everyone she knows about my corgi and how cute she is. Another woman asked to take Casey's picture!

You can see it on people's faces as we walk past - they just sort of smile when the see her, cause she's just a big goofy, happy dummy walking down the street.
Your experiences have been a lot like mine! I think it is really fun, and people used to talk about all 3 of mine the same way... no matter which one (or two) I had with me, people seemed equally as mesmerized!
I love it when my Corgi's smile, they have to be the cutest dogs around... (not that I'm biased or anything!) ha ha! :)
I just re-read your post.... and broke out laughing at "they just sort of smile when the see her, cause she's just a big goofy, happy dummy walking down the street."
That is SOOOOO LILO!
I call her my 'little dumb blonde' (in the most LOVING way possible... no offense to any blondes, lol) But she is just the same... just this oblivious smiling happy dog walking along!
We get stopped fairly often as well. I think it's because they aren't as common, and they do look pretty freakin sweet to go along with that sweet personality. But we actually have strangers stop and tell us stories as well. We even had this one lady stop us at the falls with Midas and take pictures of Midas alone and her son standing by the dog just so her mom could see. I guess they had one that looked identical to Midas whose name was Taffy. I love the fact that people who love this breed seem to be generally more happy with life than any other people. Maybe it's just me, idk! Corgis leave such an impact on people lives, it's wonderful!
Midas! I love that name! I get teased for talking about my Corgi's at work sometimes... I tell ya, once you have one, or meet one, you get Corgi fever! (Thats how I ended up with 3 at one time!) :)
When my old Corgi pal Watson was about 8 months old my son and I were walking Watson through the AZ State Fair one afternoon. About every 100 ft, women or girls would stop us and insist on petting Watson and asking the usual what/where/no tail? questions. After about 30 minutes of this my son, who was then 12, turned to me and said "Dad, Watson's a CHICK MAGNET!"

I've owned German Shepherds, a Labrador, and a Springer Spaniel in the past and none of them attracted the smiles and attention that a Corgi does. Walking a Corgi anywhere in public where there are people guarantees attention. Magical creatures, corgis.

I think its funny everytime people ask what they are, they always have me clarify "PEMBROKE Welsh Corgi"... then when they look puzzled I'll ask.... have you ever seen the Queen of Englands dogs? And almost no one knows about Queen Elizabeth having them it seems... lol
If it weren't for our 2 we'd have a hard time making it through the last couple of years. they make everyone happy.
They sure do! I have had a horrible 2010 so far... without Lilo by my side... I wouldnt have made it this far! My other 2 Corgi's died St. Patty's Day. :(
Yes you are referring to one of my favorite corgi traits! It is the ability to make people smile when they see them and want to pet them. We camp and frequently have children that visit our campsite just to pet the dogs. Complete strangers will stop tp talk about them. It is great!
