Hello all,

Was wondering if there are any chewies or snacks that can help my puppy's breath.
The dog food (Nutro) that I am feeding him is making his breath smell.
We do brush his teeth daily but I think it's coming from his tongue.

We had the same problem, I invested in Vanilla Rawhide Bones - they make his mouth smell nice and when he chews on them, the whole room smells like vanilla!
Any reason not to change his food? One of my pups came to me with the most awful breath, but a different food fixed it completely.

Vanilla Rawhide, we'll check that out.
We would want to change food but unsure how it will effect the pup. The breeder was feeding him and the whole litter Nutro. The poop is not runny so I am afraid to change it now and offset his stomach.
Just watch treats with puppies; many of them say not for pups under 6 months old.

We feed those Milk Bone Naturals; they are the round hard ones in a plastic sack. They seem to help, but they are probably best for an older dog. I would check your pet store for crunchy puppy treats.
We use Greenies, I'm not sure if you can get them in the U.S, but we, and Potus, love them. They were a lifesaver when he went through a phase of eating poo (ick).

Just read the pack though and they say not for under 6 months. But keep them in mind for when he gets older.
How old is the puppy? If he's still teething, that could be your problem. I know Dax's breath was TERRIBLE when he was teething. It still stinks, but it's a different kind of smell if you know what I mean. I give him antler chews and that helps keep his teeth clean (probably not good for puppies who don't have their adult teeth yet though), and PetSmart sells drops you can put in their water bowl that I tried once before and they worked pretty well. I should get some more and try them out on him now. Heh. I've never heard of these vanilla bones, I might have to try them. Can you get them in stores or do you have to order them?
I get them at Kroger or at a local Pet Store named Incredipet - the fancy food pet store around here.
He's only 9 weeks. I guess puppy breath stinks? hehe
No, puppy breath is sweet. Kind of like Cheerios. I would change his food.

Julia
Every puppy's breath that I've ever smelled was awful. However, there have been many recalls on the Nutro line, so I would consider a different food for that reason if nothing else.
Yeah, we're def going to change out his food. We're going to be trying one of the Natura food brands.
Natura makes great kibbles, and they're trustworthy. Their customer ervice is also amazing if you ever have to call or email them with questions.
Caifornia Naturl worked wonders for my sensitive Beagle, but just so you know, the Herring and Sweet Potato formula made his breath smell like seaweed, which I could not stand.
Raw meaty bones are great for breath, and are even better for leaning teeth. Buildup on teeth can easily be the cause of dragon breath.
