Barking While Herding a Push n Play Ball

I just bought my corgi a Jolly Push n Play Herding Ball. She absolutely loves herding the ball and has a great time pushing it with her nose and paws. However, when she's herding the ball, she won't stop barking! Is this a normal part of corgi herding behavior? Does anyone have any suggestions about how to teach my dog to stop barking while she is herding her ball?

Totally normal! Most people are familiar with the Border Collie's method of hearding-- silent stalking and eyeing. As far as I know, BCs are the only ones who herd that way. Everyone else nips and barks to get the livestock to move. Your dog is just motivating the ball to get a move on, haha. I don't think it can be stopped-- and if it can, it certainly can't stop easily! Best of luck!

I agree. Corgis are vocal herders and barking at the ball is, unfortunately, normal!

I can't answer your question, but I'd like to know more about this ball. We have had no luck with balls recently. Sparky is a ball destroyer!

We got Noodle the 10-inch Push-n-Play ball made by Jolly Pets. She really does love it and it seems pretty durable since it's made of hard plastic. For more info, go to http://www.jollypets.com/html/pushnplay.html

Thanks you everyone else for the feedback! I think our solution will be to find a big field someplace far away from the neighbors for Noodle to herd her ball.
