What is it with our corgis and uti infections lately. Becca peed in her crate last night. She hasn't had an accident since I got her. When I took her out she peed then squatted at least eight more times. My principal let me come home during my planning period to let her out. I got a free catch sample and took it to the vet then. We had an appointment after school. There was bacteria in her urine. The vet wants her in tomorrow to be sedated for a sterile sample, and to get a closer look at Becca's private parts.

She will be three this summer, no problems before now. Is it just because their parts come into contact with the ground?

feel better becca!!

According to my vet, its pretty easy for females to get an infection that way.  And if they don't drink enough water to flush their systems out, the chances are higher.  Besides putting water in her food, try feeding her a few blueberries or cranberry supplement.  Its suppose to help keep the acidity up in thier urine which helps combat UTIs.

Becca did alright at the vet's today. They were able to get a sample and sent it to the lab to be cultured. She started on clavamox for an antibiotic, it could change depending on how the culture comes back. She is on restricted activity for three days, so no agility this week. Tonight she isn't herself, seems to be the sedative. She hates the cat more than usual and just seems to feel yucky.

Hope she's feeling better soon:)

Poor little poochie!

Clavamox seems to have helped Ruby the Corgi Pup....just finished the last of it this morning. Tomorrow a urine sample to the vet...but I expect to have at least one more round of the stuff. It doesn't seem to make her sick...she's still very busy, very happy, and very playful. Just not so...uhm...pissy.

However, this morning and also yesterday morning, she peed twice within a few minutes, which I consider to be suspicious. Very suspicious. Am giving 1/4 cup of water with each meal -- she's still on the puppy schedule of three meals a day, so that delivers 12 oz of water to her 11.something pounds, about the right amount of 1 ounce per pound. She hardly ever is observed actually drinking water....
