Hello all! Hope this is the right category for this discussion.
I know there's already been some discussions about corgis flying/in-cabin flying with your corgi but I don't think this question, per se, is out there.
I know no one can answer this for sure, of course, but my pup will be 5mo/some days when I want to fly home (from TX to NC in August = can't fly in cargo because of heat). She's the runt of the litter and pretty small. She weighs 7lbs.  @ 11 weeks. So my question is:

What do you guys think the odds are of her getting to fly in-cabin @ around 6 months of age?

I'm just curious, not going to jump the gun and buy a ticket too early but I was just wondering what your experiences were/what you thought.

Thanks!

If you check out the airline's website, they should spell out the qualifications for traveling in-cabin.  At 11 lbs she might qualify as far as weight goes, but size is also a factor.  Her crate would have to fit under your seat like a carry-on, I believe.

Hi Leah, every airline have different rules on in cabin / cargo flights, you CAN still fly cargo from TX to NC, just very early non stop flight in the morning (5am). I flew mine from FL in september while the summer embargo was still on. As far as in cabin goes, your dog must fit inside a sherpa bag under the seat in the front, under no circumstance would you be allowed to open the bag during mid flight. I'm going to say flying in cabin at the age of 6 months is very unlikely, both length and weight considered.

Same procedure as sneaking your dog into a bar:

Wear sunglasses.  If anyone objects, flash your best Ray Charles smile and say, "This is my Seeing-Eye-Dog".

If they skeptically ask, "that corgi is your seeing-eye-dog....?", you stare off at the horizon and rejoin, "They gave me a CORGI?!?"

Make sure she doesn't bring a knife, or any other sharp objects.  Like teeth.

lol!

Didn't know you did Stand-Up too??? LOL x10

Ramji was around that size at 11 weeks. He is now almost 15 lbs at a few weeks shy of 6 months. He's too big of in-cabin flying :( but GOOD LuCK!

TX in Aug could be 100 deg in the morning depending on where you are flying from...so I wouldn't count on in.  I have read of one airline, Cont. maybe? that has a/c in their cargo hold, you might check that.

It also depends on where you land, all cargo area are pressurized and cool during flight, it is the loading / tarmac heat that you want to avoid. Choose red eye or pre dawn (5am) flights if you can, much cooler.

I don't know what airline but a woman that just flew here to get a pup said her airline took dogs up to 16#'s. I saw the bag and it looked fairly big but then again I forget what 6 month olds are size wise. I can ask her if you'd like.

that would be great if you could ask what airline! I'm just checking out my options at this point so the more options the better! :) Thank you!

I will, she also just joined MyCorgi:)

Thanks everyone for your replies!
Anyone else with anything to add please do! :)
