If the wrapped presents under your tree contain chocolate or any other forbidden fruits, Somebody might open them early!  Happened to us once.

A corgi might even eat fruitcake.

We generally avoid putting out presents until Christmas Eve, because my Mum was always paranoid that a tree with presents underneath is a magnet for thieves. And since we got Po we've added the use of our fireplace screen as a barrier so even on Christmas Eve if Po is stirred by the footsteps of Santa, or the reindeer on the roof, he can't get to any of our presents.

Hi John! Good reminder.  Just yesterday one of our clients gave me a Christmas gift, and as she has a pembroke and knows I have cardigans, she did warn me that there may be things in the gift bag that the dogs would find "interesting."  I was grateful for the warning!

Mine are slowly opening them whether they have food in them or not.

None of our presents contain food, but I have a funny present story to share. Presents have been wrapped underneath our tree for weeks now and just this past Saturday, my husband and I went shopping for Noodles presents. His food presents are not wrapped and won't be wrapped until Christmas morning, right in time for him to open them. I did wrap his new squeaky ring. Since this past Monday was my side of the family Christmas, I had to rearrange the presents under the tree. I made the mistake of showing Noodles which one was his present. He then proceeded to push it off the pile of presents with his nose and start pushing it around the floor. I told him NO and put it back under the tree. Then my parents arrived, Noodles greeted them and while we were talking, he went back to the present and pushed it off the pile again. I told my parents I had just shown him this was his present and now he keeps playing with it. Well, we watch him to see what he does and since we didn't stop him, he figured it was okay. He put his left paw on the present and started ripping off the wrapping paper. My husband was the bad guy this time around and took the present away from Noodles. It has since been retaped and is now sitting on top of the counter until Christmas morning. Noodles hasn't touched another present. Next year I know not to show Noodles which one is his present.

Noodles is so smart. I want to see Christmas pictures with Noodles  Please

That is so funny!!! Smart indeed..

They impress me; they know what's theirs and they respect property.  Only very rarely have they destroyed anything that wasn't theirs, and then it's usually been a sock of mine, with plausible deniability ("Ooops.  Sorry.  I thought it was one of my toys...").

I was just thinking about this too.  Dasiy is sick right now with some diarrhea and vomiting but she didn't get into a present. The only thing I can think of that she has had is I caught her drinking the Christmas tree water.

I read Christmas tree water is not good so maybe that was the problem. We wrapped the base of the stand with foil to keep the pets out. Dasiy seems to feel a little better.
