Earthborn Holistic
I know there are a lot of food discussions going on right now, so the timing may not be great, but I have never heard of this food before and was just wondering if anyone else knew anything about. Earthborn Holistic looks to be a really green company, which is great, but I'm more concerned with the quality of their food. It looks to be similar in line to maybe Natura and their Innova and Evo products? I just stumbled across the brand on accident at a feed store in my parents' town this weekend and noticed it is considerably less expensive than some of the brands I buy, so I was curious. Your welcome! I love green too, and if I can buy green AND feed my pets something I "approve of" AND buy from a local feed store, I'm totally there! It certainly wasn't "cheap" by any means (sometimes I wish I didn't know anything about dog food so I could feed cheapo dog chow and not feel guilty, lol), but even the grain free formula was a good $10/bag less expensive than the Orijen or Evo. Orijen will always be my favorite, but sometimes I rotate in other foods just for variety of flavor and budget-friendly-ness since the Orijen is pricey.
When I looked up the places that sold it, the small feed store by my house was listed, and I know they didn't have it the last time I went in there which was about a year ago, so I'm wondering if maybe it's a new brand? I'm hoping that maybe some of the people on here that own the feed stores can shed some light on that for me!

It's a brand new formula released last year... I thiiink I saw it at Superzoo, and I know I saw it at the local trade show, one of our reps picked up the line. It's manufactured by Pro-Pac. It's sort of what I would actually consider for me personally to be a mid-ranged food... It has a few things in it that knock it out of contention for me, including the synthetic vitamin K (Menadione) which has been banned from human consumption by the FDA.
However, it's gorgeous packaging -- but I'd kind of personally lean towards gimmicky on this one as a sales pitch.

That is helpful, thanks. I was reading on another forum that the company has taken out the Menadione, but finished using up packaging already printed. Do you know if that is true or not?

I was told the same thing - that it has been taken out of the new formulation, since they did get the backlash about it when it was first brought out. The problem is that the bags are manufactured in a different place than the food is and they pre-set an amount pre-printed.
However, I'm kind of funny... until I see it off the website and the bags on this, I'm not going to have it on the shelf myself. I tend to stand there and read things obsessively with pet food, since... heh, that's what I've been doing professionally for the last 15 years.
It's kind of funny what you catch and what you hear and I've tossed foods and reps out of the store for less. He was up front with me and did say that the customer complaints and concerns caused them to change this ingredient, and he brought it up before I did. I always kind of wait and see what they *don't* bring up to me and then see what happens if I catch them off guard on any product. *chuckles*
But like I said, until it's off the bags out there and their site ingredients, tis a no-go for me!

I totally agree with that! I am boderline obsessive about my animals' food. In fact, it is a great dream of mine to someday run a natural pet food store/ dog day care/ training facility. Big dreams, lol.
Do you know anything about whether or not they use ethoxyquin?

I like the green idea. I just looked at the formulas and noticed that their regular adult food has one meat source (chicken meal, I think) followed by no fewer than 6 grains and/or starches. I know we don't always see eye-to-eye on food :-) but I know that when people are looking at higher-end kibbles, that can raise some eyebrows, even if you're not looking at high-protein foods.
