Few questions about Corgis (getting mine in june)

hi, I'm getting a corgi in June and I'm excited!! But I want to get a few things for it before I get it.

I order everything online pretty much, (a lot easier for me since I don't drive) So it's harder for me to find like the right size things for an animal.

I'm just wondering if you guys can tell me what size bed is a good size (or show me a link to which one you have) also whats a good cage size, harnesses, collars.. or anything I'm missing. It would be appreciated. Again, thank you!!(:

Hi Ashley! Congrats on getting a Corgi! Take a look at our photos, Bogart really likes the beds I got from PetSmart, I got one for his bedroom (the laundry room) and one for the living room.

Abbey has a large pillow like bed.  We keep it in the living room for her, and at night she sleeps in a pet taxi (large pet taxi).   She has her own blanket that she keeps in the taxi (when she is not dragging it out!)  I know how excited you must be to get your corgi!  Good luck and please post pictures!  Abbey has a collar and we keep her on a leash most of the time she goes out to keep her from running off!

there's helpful info in the FAQ for the collar/harness sizing. and what option you want.

if you go for a crate, the vari kennel is a good one (either in intermediate or medium, though we got the former)

things geared towards small dogs and toy breeds don't really work for corgis. but full grown they'll be between 10-12" high, and depending on boy or girl 25-30 lbs. so you can gauge things that way.  also are you getting your corgi from a breeder or someone you can ask for advice?

we have lots of pet stores around, but also buy a lot off amazon, wag.com, pet360.com, doggievogue.com, and a bunch of others.

we like to mix it up. good luck!

How wonderful that you are getting a corgi!  I have a pillow type bed for mine, the cover is removable for washing.  I also have a crate that Max treats as his cave during the day.  Katie sleeps in the crate at night because she is a pain in the bed, every time you move you get your face washed.  Max is a gentleman and just curls up and goes to sleep on our bed.  Both of mine wear collars for their tags but I use a harness when walking Max..it's easier on his neck.

rae is correct that things for a small dog are rarely good for a corgi...they have medium sized bodies atop those short legs.

Hi Ashley, here's an old thread that should answer all your questions.

Sky's den, bed and sanctuary is a Pet Taxi crate (inside dimensions 24" L x 16" W x 15" H) with a folded towel and a folded polyester fleece blanket inside. (Save your old towels, they will come in handy.)

We tried a foam-filled, polyester covered pillow-style bed but he immediately decided it was a giant soft chew toy. We are saving that bed for later.

He had a small size collar and narrow leash for the first month or so, now he has a medium size collar with a silent, rivet-style tag (I posted a pic on my page) and a 6' long wide leash. I decided against a harness.

I use the Kong (puppy size) a lot. I put part of his meal inside it and place it in his bowl, to slow him down eating. I put a yummy treat inside and smear peanut butter or coconut oil around the opening and give it to him in his crate. It seems to settle him down.

You will want a water bowl that is hard to tip over...ceramic or stainless steel with a wide bottom.  For food, I started with small Melamine-type food bowls, but he quickly learned he could pick them up (empty) and carry them to his crate for re-purposing as chew toys, so I switched to a ceramic bowl, which I pick up when he's done eating.

We've gone through lots of toys. His favorites are large plastic bottles, deer antlers, cardboard or egg cartons to shred, and anything with a squeaker. I supervise all toy use...nothing is 100% safe.

Have fun shopping, it helps pass the time while you're waiting for your new puppy.
