How long does it take for TriHeart to be absorbed?

Jack and Maddie had their TriHeart pill (heartworm) last night and Jack threw up this morning, about 9 hours after eating the pill.

Would that have been enough time for the medication to be absorbed?  Anyone know? I couldn't find anything online.

Thanks!

Hi Beth, peak plasma concentration occurs 4 hours after ivermectin administration, half life is 3.3 days. So yes, there's enough time. I highly recommend this book.

I also was going to say that should have been absorbed. I was just going by people but am no expert. Could ask the vet too.

That should be enough time. Generally our rule is when a dog eats something toxic we have 4 hours to make them vomit otherwise it is already in the intestines being absorbed and we have to use other means to neutralize the toxin so 9 hours should be plenty.

Thank you all. That was very helpful. I was thinking of digestion times, but of course the absorption rate of medication is much faster than the digestion rate of food.
