We have a female corgi. She seems to have taken a liking to me (I'm a female) over my husband. I know she likes me and always wants my attention, but she also loves to boss me around also. She will bark and start biting me. I sternly tell her "no" and try to stare her down, but when I do this, she barks even more. She barks with all her might and when I keep giving her a stern stare, she gets frustrated and starts biting the carpet or furniture (whatever's within her mouth's reach) in frustration. If I'm within her reach, she'll keep biting me too. When she does this, I try to catch her to put her in her play pen for a "time out" but she runs away so fast that I can't catch her. Does anyone else have this problem? What do you do in this case? Also, does it seem odd that my female corgi likes me more? I thought female dogs tend to bond with male persons and vice versa.

When she gets in a dominating state like that get up and walk away. Don't give her any attention. It's going to take awhile but you have to be consistent. She is trying to be the boss. Give her a strong no and when she keeps it up, walk away.
As for male bonding with the females and females bonding with males....I don't believe in that. I can't say that I have seen that kind of bonding with any of my dogs. My female corgi would rather be on my lap than any place in the world.
The fact that she feels she can boss you around doesn't mean she likes you better. I agree just walk away or turn your back on her. Also, depending on where you are you can put her in a puppy proof area for a time out too. I would not try to stare her down or catch her. These appear to be rewards for her negative behavior. Look into training classes ASAP to help you get control of her. I do think it is true that dogs frequently bond closer to one of their humans than the other but I doubt if it is just gender related.
