Oh, I am so upset. I was driving with Hannah and had the window down for her, like usual. Next thing I know, she jumps out. I was doing no more than 25mph, but she landed in someone's driveway. I slammed on the breaks and went to her. She came right to me but was crying. I took her to the car and saw that she was bleeding near her mouth. I called my boyfriend (I was right down the road), and he came to help. I was hysterical. He called the vet and they had him check her over. She seemed okay. Just shaken up and a little bloody. She scraped up her chin pretty good and has quite a bit of swelling there. She also has a chunk of skin missing from her leg. The vet said that if she seemed to be acting okay and her gums were still pink, she would likely be fine. They said to monitor her for a while and see how she does. It's been about an hour ago, and she's already back to playing and such. Is it okay to use neosporin on her? I'm afraid that she will lick it off her mouth.

I'm going out tomorrow and buying a harness for the car. I am so upset with myself for letting this happen. It could have been so much worse, and it would have been all my fault. Ugh. I'm so paranoid that she might have internal injuries or something. Do you think I should take her in to get checked out tomorrow or just let her be?

Sorry for rambling. I'm just still in shock, I think.

I would take her in to be checked out. Hopefully she will forget about it long after you are still traumatized! I hope she is OK.
I am so sorry to hear that. But no point beating yourself up for something that already happened. I would probably bring her for a check up to hv a piece of mind. Talk to the vet about your concerns and things to take note.

I have started using harness for my Keke too when driving. Knowing that she is secure in the backside make me feel safer.
I'm sure she is okay. A vet would not allow you to take her home unless they are sure she is fine. If they wondered they probably would have suggested to keep her over night for observations. As for the neosporin, my vet told me it was fine to use even if they lick it off. However, one day Midas ate a whole tube and so we of course panicked and called the first vet number we could get our hands on. They then told me that the amount he ate was lethal. Needless to say I freaked out because they told me to induce vomiting if it had been under 30 minutes. Well, it hadn't. So I rushed him to the vet and brought the empty tube with me. When I got to our vet, they said he was fine and no reason to worry. At most he would have an upset tummy and some neosporin textured poo. I was nervous that they were so calm about this even though the other place said he would die. I ended up staying home that day from work just to watch him to make sure he was ok. And he had no effects whatsoever. I hope she is ok. Keep us posted and follow your gut. Try not to worry, the vet didn't seem too concerned right?
Even with the harness on you might just open the window a little bit so she won't fit if she tries to get out.
I hope she's ok. I would take her to the vet for a thorough going-over.

Don't beat yourself up, as what's done is done and you plan to make a change to prevent it happening again. It's a lesson to us all. The little buggers have no fear.
Thanks everyone. I feel a bit better now. Still hate seeing her swollen little chin though. =( I think I will have my boyfriend take her to the vet tomorrow since it's his day off and see what they say. I just don't understand why she jumped. I can still picture it. There wasn't a moment of hesitation. She just flew out the window like it was nothing. =/
I'm guessing you don't have kids yet, right??? lol!! I, too, would have her checked out just for your peace of mind.
Hehe. I definitely do not have any kids yet. Thanks for the laugh!
Here's the poor baby's wounds.

Would it be a gd idea if you put her on e-collar? So that she will not lick the wound on her leg.
or anotehr idea would to put a guaze pad on the wound after the neosporin and then put a wrap on it, I forget what its called but they sell it at the pet store. Hopefully she would leave the wrap alone, if not then maybe an ecollar would be good.
vet wrap works well, it sticks to itself, and you can probably get it at even a walmart or something, or go to a feed or pet store.
