well i have some bad news about major the dachshund we adopted. if u read my blog a few days ago u know that he was very toy aggressive but nothing else made him tick, not food, people, nothing but toys turned him into the demon dog. i tried the trade game, tug and drop, etc. nothing worked! so i tried making him relize that i am the leader and we are a pack so to speak...

well two days ago i got bite really bad on my hands along with scratches and poor teddy got a little one under his eye. what happened was yesterday teddy found a plastic leaf. he went up to major and they played and played for hours. they were having a blast and because of that i didnt take it away. i praised him over and over. so that morning i got bite, teddy came back from inside and picked up the leaf and was on his back playing with it. major took it from him and teddy must of thought he was playing so he went up to him. he gets a bite on his face. i scream "major no!" he runs off with the leaf by the door and he gets submissive. i try and take the leaf and he then (with out warning) bites down on my hand with all his mite but would not let go! i tried prying his mouth oopen but just bite harder. (sorry to say this) but i punched him in the nose and he then let go but then just grabbed on to my other hand and would let go. im screaming/crying "let go!!" i hit him again and grab him by the neck and threw him into the cage(sorry but i was in a lot of pain and shock) i was bleeding pretty bad. i had to go to the hospital and file it. i took him back to the shelter and he has to be in isolation to make sure he isnt sick. they will not put him to sleep (thank god) but put him into a rescue. i know that maybe some are thinking what could a little dog like that do? honestly he was 22pounds. he was a very big guy!

the shelter coulnt believe what happened. they gave us a certificate worth how much the adoption fee was. we maid the decision not to adopt another dog until we are truly ready and take our time until we fin the right one. i saw a sheltie mix that was so pretty but honestly she was a screamer in the cage and thats why her owners gave her up. i felt bad but with us moving it would be best for us not to adopt right now and focus on our two cats and spoil teddy(in a good way of course:)) so with the gift certificate we get, all of his shots, heartworm test. two years worth of heart worm/flea meds. microchip. and fecal test and the meds to go with it. soo it works out in a way as teddy needs this done.

i still feel bad for taking him back and that i hit him but it hurt so bad and he wouldnt let go. i really loved the little guy but  i guess it was meant to be despite the connection i felt with him..:(

I'm so sorry to hear that Rebecca, do know that everyone's ability, skill and tolerance are different, we all change and learn differently, perhaps you'll become more experienced and prepared a few years down the road. Some dogs are happy being the only dog in the house, at least you've given your best within your comfort zone.
thank u sam. i truly did try to make this work. he was loving and very sweet! always by my side and just wanted to be in my lap and give kisses. just wish this didnt have to happen
You know, I've never met a nice weiner dog. Don't feel bad...sometimes it just doesn't work out for one reason or another. You did your best, and it sounds like he needs maybe a one person, one animal household. I'm glad that the shelter won't put him down, that's what happens alot of the time. I recently sheltered an aussie and got him into rescue...he had aggression issues at the rescue home, and ended up being put down. I was SO MAD. I never had any issues with him, but evidently he bit her a couple of times. I hope your hand is OK...
We had a very nice doxie when I was a kid so they are out there. She wouldn't have hurt a soul!!
i have meet a few nice dachshunds but some people adopt them and dont know to properly raise them and i believe thats why some turn out the way they do
my goal when i brought him back was for him not to be put down. he was super sweet but whatever happened with him in his past with toys must of been bad. i believe in 2nd chances. even though it hurts so bad emotional and physical i cant blame him for what his past was
So sorry...maybe he will have to go to an only dog household. Hope your hand is ok and my neice has 3 great doxies...they are nice ones...sometimes just like people...the past may have been rough and he brought some of his past with him:(
thank u jane. im getting better but i still wonder how hes doing. im thinking his past must of been bad or teased with the toys because other than that he was soooo very sweet
Hope your hand is ok! I got a serious bite once and I know they hurt bad! It's not the skin breaks, it's the bruises, right? D:
thank u sarah. im getting better and it still hurts to use my hand but each day it gets better. the worse bite was on my left hand right on the knuckle. so its hard to hold anything. its all cut up, bruised and still a little swollen. u r right about the bruises. my right hand has a million, ugh!
Very sad to hear it didn't work out with Major. As you said, sometimes it's not meant to be.

Matching up dogs and family is a bit like putting together a winning sports team, sometimes the players are all great but the team doesn't jell and work. Dachshunds, even small ones like our 12lb Holly, are tough as nails and extremely powerful for their size, as befits their breeding to hunt badgers and smaller game. Holly is a squeaky toy maniac but not so much that she won't give it up to us. Gromit, having grown up with her, knows when he can grab a toy and when he can't.

Wiener dogs are often "one person dogs" and separating them from their one special person can create lots of anxiety, they really are not as rock solid and unflappable as Corgis generally are. I applaud your effort though in trying to rescue Major. Hopefully his next home will be with a team where he can fit in and your next player will fit in with your team.
thank u so very much. i truly did try my best and i was so happy to rescue and bring him into our home but like u said it just wasnt meant to be. they truly are tough as nails but when something happens to them they seem to shut down and get all nerved up. its understandable though.
