A while ago I posted that Shiro had itchy skin, yeast infections, eye discharge, itchy eyes, etc.
Most of these things are gone with the new food, but he still has itchy eyes and dry skin.
The eye discharge came back for a couple weeks and no it's gone again. I haven't changed a thing!
Every morning after he eats he'd roll on the floor with his face on the carpet and even tries to scratch the eyes with his feet and front paws. I think this is what makes the corners of his eyes red because he certaintly doesn't wake up that way.
I used some saline drops on him this morning and it seemed to help with the itching, but I'm not entirely sure.
Another thing, the skin is dry. I can see the little white flakes on his belly and some on the brushed off hair. It is not dandruff that he did have with bad shampoo, it's much less and smaller.
I tried to give him fish oil or olive oil in food, but both give him diarrhea. I don't think the skin bothers him, he doesn't scratch anything except the eyes.
Is it just cold weather? He hasn't had a bath in about a month and I don't think he needs one.
Did anyone have similar problems with your corgis? What did you do about it?

Start with the fish oil, I prefer salmon oil, in small amounts with his food gradually increasing the amount until you get to the recommended amount. Salmon oil has done wonders for Rocky's coat. He is really shiny and his coat just feels well nourished. You can get salmon oil at most pet stores or feed/farm stores in the pet section.

Has a vet seen his eyes. Rosie got pink eye this summer. She was rubbing her eyes and squinting in the fun. It's pretty common in dogs. We got some drops from the vet and it fixed her right up. She was really good for the drops. I think they made her eyes feel so much better that she didn't fight them at all.
My Wynn has allergies and occasionally gets the red itchy eyes. Just ask your vet if you rule out pink eye and he can recommend something! As for baths that is good that you're not giving them mine get one only when they've rolled or are really muddy which is 1-2 times a year!
Thanks guys, I'll try salmon oil!
It is not pink eye because he doesn't care for the sun and only the corners of eyes are red.
Since he had pneumonia I became a terrible dog hypochondriac and everything seems like a big deal.
Pink eye has nothing to do with the sun. It's an infection in the eyes. Rosie squinted when she was in any light and her eyes were very itchy. She was very miserable until we got started on the drops.
Sky also had pink out at one point, and it wasn't like human pink eye, his eyeballs were not "pink." He just was very squinty and itchy around the eyes, and with him I could tell a marked problem because he was very lethargic and didn't want to do anything but lay down with his eyes closed.
Check out Nzymes.com. They have some articles on yeast infections in dogs and a yeast cleansing system. I use the Antioxidant Granules, the Pro-Bak probiotics, and the Ox-E drops made into a spray on both of my dogs. This system has been great and has gotten rid of Lyla's itchies completely and has drastically reduced Sky's.
If I was to pick one item from the Yeast Kit, what would be the best?
It's hard to say since everything really works together to fix the problem inside and out, but if I could only get one to stop itching, probably the Ox-E drops since it's an instant, topical relief for the itch. I don't know if they are still doing it, but they used to run a promotion that for your first order you also got a free bottle of Antioxidant treats. If they still do, pay the extra $2 shipping and get them because having that stuff will also help cleanse his system internally. I think the probiotics are also important to build back up the system, especially if he's been sick a lot lately (see, I knew I couldn't just pick one, lol). The bottle is expensive, but it's supposed to last 1-2 years, and it really will as you don't use very much. Good luck and I would be more than happy to tell you about how the system has helped Sky and Lyla (I didn't get the whole giant yeast kit, I got the smaller, cheaper one with the three products I've mentioned).
I asked nzymes the same question, they said the granules will be the best.
I would love to share some information with you. Many Corgis seem to have allergies to different things. Although it sounds like you are off to a great start. What are you currently feeding him? A great dog suppliment for skin and coat and overall health conditions is Missing Link, to put on his food daily. This should help a ton with the dry skin, and ichyness. Also if you would take out of your dog food, and or look for a dogfood without any corn, wheat, or soy this will help a LOT!.. Please allow a month for the Missing Link to show much improvement. If you have any questions at all, we are always glad to help in anyway, email royalridgekennel@yahoo.com, and or post here. I hope this all helps.. Your doing great.. Light bathing is good also, as this really dries the coat out. Blessings, Tracy
