I hope everyone had a wonderful holiday season. I started to feel a bit off around Thnnksgiving and came down with what I call my Annual Christmas Croup and ear infections at the beginning of December. I ignored it and tried to power through until Icould no longer take Sully out. I was shocked to discover I couldn't even send s text. I should have called 911 but I swear, I couldn't think straight at all. Thank God my daughter was alarmed by my garbled text and she sent my granddaughter to take me to the hospital and she came to take Sully to her house. It turns out I did have croup but I also had pneumonia in both lungs and I was told that can sometimes cause confusion and delirium. I was useless. I can't believe I hadn't planned better. I did give my neighbor a key, which helped since my daughter arrived after I left for the hospital, but It never occurred to me to give a key to a family member and have two emergency bags packed, one for me, and one for Sully. They were able to find everything, but it would have been so much easier to have the food and feeding instructions, along a list of special toys and such to take along, packed and ready for an emergency. They were nice enough to pack up some clothes for me to go home in and after spending more than a week in hospital I would have left in the cotton Johnny, but I did feel like a rodeo clown in the outfit they put together. I hope it never happens again, but next time I will plan better, especially for Sully's sake. She did however do very well on my daughter's little farm and she learned a few things, sadly, from a sweet but very big yellow lab, such as how to steal food off tables. Just yesterday when IC was out she stole a dog bisquit off the TV console. No idea how she managed to get up there. Anyway, I hope no one ever needs it, but a prepacked bag with medication and allergy instructions as well as dr and vet contact numbers for the pet and the owner can be a huge help I think. I hope everyone has a Happy New Year!

Holly.....I am very happy to hear you are on the mend!  Pneumonia is nothing to mess with, BTDT.  Very good idea to have at least a list of what the dog needs for food and especially if they have meds they need to take plus vet names and numbers.

I am lucky if that both my husband and I get stranded my closest friend's son lives across the street from me.  He has a key to the house...he takes care of the cats when we go away and the dogs are boarded...but he is great with the dogs also.  We got stranded one time an hour from home at a friend's house when what was suppose to be flurries turned into 18 inches.  He was able to come let the dogs out and feed them and play with them till we got home the next day.  He has all our vet info and knows where we board the dogs if we are unexpectedly gone for several days.

Feel better!  You should ask your doc about the pneumonia shot, we get it every few years and so far so good.  That's a great idea about a little emergency dog pack, especially if they are on meds like mine are.  Happy New year!
