I have had 5 corgis and yet Morgan has me baffled.  He chews wood and books!  I have lost nearly a dozen books, not to mention a bookcase to this bad habit.  I draped a sheet over the bookcase so he can't get to it.  He then went for the baseboard!  His brother Kendal seems mortified by the behavior.  He skulks away when I come upon the latest mishap (I know Kendal is innocent because he sticks to me like glue and we have caught Morgan in the act ---- splinters on his lips are also a dead giveaway!)

Morgan is no longer a pup, so he should have outgrown this habit.  He has dozens of toys at his disposal and he does use them.

Any advise??

I have Sage who chewed till she was 18 months. I still don't trust her if I'm gone so I kennel her. I really don't have an answer as to why her and not the others. Some of my others will chew up the stuffed toys and others will not but that's better than books, cords and many other things. Have you tried giving toys that can't be chewed? Sorry but know you are not alone!

I know exactly how you feel! I am the owner of another avid reader. Ziggy's tongue was black from the ink on the pages he ate. Maybe we can start a book club.... T.T

Ziggy, seen below, is only about 8 months old. After finding out about his love for reading, we've decided to reign him in and crate him. He really loves his crate and hangs out in it when I'm in the kitchen and he's allowed to roam free. Growing up, we never put our dogs in crates, so his older brother went through some trials and tribulations, but learned to stop and now has freedom while we are at work. Baxter did great after only a few mistakes, but Ziggy just doesn't seem to get it. I'm hoping he'll grow out of it, but I don't know if that's just wishful thinking. Will he just be a crated dog his whole life? I know that concept shouldn't make me sad, but it does. Especially when his brother has the roam of the house. Any advice would be awesome.

I truely think Sage feels more comfortable  kenneled while we are gone...don't feel bad. All my dogs actually love their crates and many times hang out in them anyways:) Sage only does this when we are gone. Little stinker but maybe she's getting back at us for leaving her.

OH Boy my puppy Zeus is the same way he destroys all and any toy he can get ahold of in seconds, We have thrown away so many things, and he even chewed his blankets up so many times and eats them that we can't even put one in his crate with him anymore and he is 1 year old all I can say is man is it frustrating, mostly because he has so many bones and stuff that he could be chewing on instead of destrying everythign else :(

Hi Michael, my Kota is a chewer who just this morning was under my bed chewing the wood slats.  She will be 2  in January, but she still chews/eats things that she shouldn't, so we have to watch her.  Both of my corgis are crated when we are not home.  It's the only way I can have peace of mind that they aren't eating something dangerous.
