So....I’m just exhausted!  Moving really stinks!!!!  We just finished the move into my parent’s house, in a newly remodeled mother-in-laws suite, to help care for my parents.  It is a big adjustment for all.  Sally our rescue if having the hardest time!  Living in the basement there is a lot of noises; my father uses a walker and is very loud.  He is hard of hearing so the TV is LOUD!  It is a very busy street and lots of noise from kids in the neighborhood.  The fence is going in Monday, so I hope that will help with Sally feeling secure and me not worrying about the busy road!  Is it normal for her to have such a hard time when it comes to going #2? We have had her outside lots, I even have been up walking her at 3am because she is restless and it’s quiet out then.  This morning that didn’t even help her go!  Yesterday was a very stressful day because the builder was here finishing with lots of noisy things.  I took her to work with me in the morning (she had a loose BM at work) and then had to get the carpets clean at the old house, so she was with me there waiting for the cleaner to show up.  The builders didn’t leave until 7pm so we were upstairs with my parents waiting for them to get done.  Should I keep taking her out or just let her let me know when she has to go?  I’ve been worrying about messes on the new carpet!!!  Does anyone have any ideas?  I know exercise would help lots, but she is so scared of everything!

I know how u feel. Two months ago I moved into an appartment and teddy would not go poop for a whole day because he got so use to having a pvt yard but in an appartment it impossible for him to get privacy to go potty. So now we r moving to dc and he gets his pvt backyard again lol so he's gotten use to moving around a lot. In time she will get confortable but it may be awile. Runny poop is normal as it is stressful. I would let her tell u but if its been awile take her to a pvt area and try:) and use lots of praise. She just gotta get use to the new area
Loose stool is a normal reaction to stress, new people, new smell, furniture, move, loud noise...etc. Exercise will promote BM.
Taking care of elderly parents isn't easy...I know! PoorSally...it's alot of change and she is probably scared! I would just take her out as needed for now and then spend time with her and have fun once the fence is in and she is safer! She may be not drinking enough water if she's having a hard time going...could you sit by her and encourage her to eat and drink...or maybe some canned pumkin???? How long have you had her??? Does she like to be crated? Can you leave a radio on if you have to go??? Good luck and it will take some time...
Thanks everyone. She had a normal BM at 4am this morning!!! Jane I've had her since December. I know the fence will help; I just have to give her time! I would love to take her on long walks but everything scares her. I will keep trying, she is such a sweetheart! I gave her lots of praise this morning along with treats :) We leave the TV on a music channel for the dogs when we are gone and I crate her if I'm not there with her. I don't trust her yet and I think she feels safer. My mom will come down and talk to her if she barks a lot and I think she is starting to get used to that. She has figured out that Grandma is the chicken treat lady! When she sees her she checks out what is in her hands :)
Lynne,

Rescues do need a little more time to adjust. We live in the country so some of my rescues that don't get as much socialization would sure have some problems. Sounds like grandma is helping her feel better and that you are doing a great job helping Sally adjust...it's just going to take time! You'll get there! Isn't it amazing how excited we get about the dog poop!
Do you have time to sign her up for a training class or something like rally to help build her confidence in a controlled environment? Also, when you take her for walks bring lots of jerky/soft meat treats and keep her focused on you not the other stuff. You can hold a treat in your hand, down alongside your leg to lure her a little bit at a time praising her along the way or throw the treats a few feet in front of you and teach to play "find it". Again many trainers have classes on reactive dogs to environmental distractions. Good luck!
