Ouch! That hurts!
Hello all,
I'm a new Corgi owner and I was wondering if some of you could help me out with my pup's chewing and biting habits.
He's 9 weeks old and I've had him for 3 weeks. I'm aware he is still very young, but I can't even pet him without him trying to bite me. He's drawn blood on me as well as another family member. I've tried "yelping" back at him, exclaiming "OUCH!", saying "No" as well as trying to ignore him.
I try to give him rawhide, ropes and other chew toys but he seems to find my shoes, fingers and pant leg much more appealing. Please help!

Your breeder sent him to your home rather early. A lot of breeders don't let their corgis go until 8-10 weeks because they learn so much from their litter mates, like bite inhibition. But you are doing all the right things like yelping loudly and ignoring him when he's been nippy. Their litter mates often teach them a lot about play biting and what level is appropriate and what hurts (and punished by the other dogs). Keep shrieking and offer chew toys. He'll get the picture. He looks like a total charmer!!

When Sparty was a puppy if he continued biting after a very dramatic high pitched yelp I gave him a brief time out in the kitchen. Their litter mates won't play if they are too rough so it adds to his learning not to use his teeth.

I've heard of putting bitter apple spray on your hands so when they bite it tastes bad and they learn not to do it. I never had biting problems with Orion but Laika is a major biter. She only has issues when she gets super excited and starts licking your hands or feet, then she'll start biting. What I did is I'd let her lick but as soon as she nipped me I'd hold her mouth shut for a few seconds and give a firm "no biting" and she no longer does it to me anymore. Sometime's she'll get very overexcited with other people and will nip them but she never nips me or my brother anymore (I guess we've made sure we're alpha dogs in the house, the dogs always listen to us, but not so much everyone else, haha). So we're still working on it but it seemed to work well with her but every dog is different! With Orion we disciplined by doing the "alpha roll" where I scruffed him and rolled him on his back (not for biting issues, but other puppy problems) and held him there a few seconds and that worked really well but with Laika she kind of just laid there and didn't care so we started holding her mouth shut and that worked.
