Hi, it's me again.  :)  As I've mentioned recently, our household recently adopted a stray Corgi.  Bizarre, I know, as who in the world could possibly not want to keep one of these dogs?!  (We made many earnest attempts to find an owner, but no one in our area has lost one...and, sadly, he acts like he'd been abused in his past life, so he might have been dumped.)  Anyway, when Romeo came to us he was really depressed - so un-Corgi-like - with small, bloodshot eyes, wary of everyone and everything, and with no knowledge of even basic dog behaviors like coming toward a person offering a treat.  He's come a long way since then, with his eyes opening up, gradually developing the happy Corgi smile, and starting to relax all the way around.

But he does have an unusual behavior that I've only seen a couple times in my many years of observation of dogs:  whenever he poops, he does the whole backward-moon-walk-scratching-the-ground thing and ends up flinging his poop!  LOL.  Now he and my Heidi have been sharing a pen at night (we live in the country so they sleep in a fenced in pen w/ Dogloo at night when the weather is nice...mostly for their protection) - and he's gotten her to start flinging her poop too!  It's really hilarious, albeit disturbing.  Me and Romeo's mom have joked back and forth that since we regularly clean out their pen with a bucket and pooper-scooper, we're going to teach them to aim better, and then just angle the bucket so they can fling their poop in it themselves.  :)

Just wondering if anyone knows what type of behavior this is?  I was under the impression from previous experience, that only really confident dogs leave their "scent signature," and he is NOT a confident dog.  It's true that he is still intact (he'll be neutered soon), but I didn't think that had anything to do with it.  Maybe I'm wrong.  Anybody know?
