So I got my 8 week old puppy named Brian yesterday. I am planning to take Ein, my 1 3/4 year corgi to the dog park this weekend. When Ein returns home, will Brian be unsafe and catch something since he doesn't have all of his shots yet? Like Parvo, etc.? (Ein is up to date with his vaccinations.)

No dog parks for Brian yet!
I think you are asking if it's safe to take Ein to the dogpark and then bring him home and have him near Brian, correct?

Personally I would hold off until Brian has his second set of shots, and then about 10 days after that to give time for immunity to build.

It is unlikely, but possible, that Ein could bring home something on his paws or snout that could infect Brian. I would hope that all dogs at the park would be vaccinated, but you really just never know and there are some contagious things out there that there are no vaccines for as well.

Do you have pics of Brian?? :-)
LOL I am glad Beth reads better than me and I agree with her about being careful about whatever Ein is exposed to right now too.
Yes, pictures are on my profile :)
Oh, so cute!
I would def wait as well. It's kinda like when you bring home germs from work and your kid gets sick from just being around you. You had a flu shot the kid didn't. Your dog could still be a carrier of infectious things. I would wait at least until the 2nd set so Brian isn't so susceptible to things. He is still very young. Maybe some nice long walks or play dates with a dog you are positive is safe so Ein can get his energy out. Ein can wait a little bit for the park. Especially if it means his little brothers health!
Yes, I know some people say wait til the whole series is complete, but by then your socialization window is rapidly closing, and you really need to balance the dangers of infection against the dangers of having a poorly socialized dog.

Both vet and breeder said ok to go out and about after the 2nd set, so the same would apply to other dog's in the household who might bring stuff back. Our breeder did 2nd set by 10 weeks when the puppies left, so by 11 weeks old we were clear.

Aj, I have even heard of humans tracking stuff in on their shoes and infecting unvaccinated pups, so it is definitely best to err on the side of caution. I would also avoid areas where wild animals frequent, or if you are going to other places, maybe leave your shoes on the porch and wash up well before handling the baby.
I'd agree with the folks here, AJ. As much as I'd love for SId and Ein to play together next week, I definitely want to meet a healthy Brian later! I really can't wait for some puppy snuggles, so please let me know once Brian is cleared for social interaction and we'll plan another playdate!

Sooo, how is Ein reacting to Brian? Is Brian totally adorable???
If Brian is not fully vaccinated, I would avoid taking Ein anywhere public as well. Parvo can be contracted by sniffing the paws of a dog that has been in an area where the virus exists. Better safe than sorry. I'd wait if I were you.
Thank you all so much for your responses, it looks like Ein and I will have to wait! But after Brian has his shots, and 10 days for his immunity to build (thanks Beth!), I will be able to take both of them to the dog park. :)
I’m glad someone mentioned the fact that after the last shot they need time to build up immunity. Many people don't know this and our vet didn't volunteer this information when Finn got his last shot. I only found out because I thought to ask him and he said that yes, it takes about 2 weeks to become immune.
We allowed Finn to go play with my Mom's dog and maybe one or two others that we knew were vaccinated. Occasionally he would meet a dog in our apartment complex as well but really he didn't get to be around other dogs much until his finally found of shots. He turned out great; loves all people, dogs and cats though when he was a baby he was a little scared of large dogs and would roll over if they approached him. Now he thinks he is one of the big dogs. :)
