Seanna and her urine update...
Now that we are back in Iowa, I took Seanna in yesterday for her much overdue vaginitis check. She unfortunately got worse while we were in Kansas. Since Wade's grandma fell absolutely in love with her when we were in Kansas, she got many extra noms. (Still lost two pounds though!). The vet thinks it may be related to that, since we did have her on strictly the Royal Canine Urine food, and she was getting better. If you guys remember, her urine pH has been high at 8.0, and the vet thinks it's burning her skin around her urethral opening.
So today she spent the day at the vet, with no food after 8pm last night, and no pee/poop this AM. The vet managed to extract pee from her (needle aspiration, ouch) at about 1pm. He had a little difficulty because, of course, she was full of poop. That was seen on the XR he did looking for bladder stones. They said she was the perfect lady for them through all of it...*BIG SMILE*.....said she's the best corgi they've ever had.
No bladder stones, and we are waiting to see what the urine culture shows. I'm clueless as to what could be causing all this. I know food may play a part, but how come all of a sudden at age 4? I'm kind of hoping the urine culture shows something weird, as long as it's treatable.
But she's back home, eating/pooping/chasing cats like nothing ever happened. What a trooper!

She did! She was gone from him for over two weeks, and was very happy to see him when she got back. They're little nubbins were going a million miles an hour!

Maybe there was a problem when she was younger, but it just wasn't caught and just escalated over time. Ouch, that sounds painful, burning around her urethral opening. Glad to hear she is back home and acting like herself again. :)

Hi Jen, urinary problem don't occur overnight, it has everything to do with food and water. Besides the Royal Canin SO, try and increase her water intake, make sure your water source is filtered, you can purchase something cheap like a brita faucet or pitcher drip filter. If you are looking for a long term solution, reverse osmosis system is your best bet. Be patient, it'll take sometime for it to clear. Get well soon Seanna!

Have you ever checked the PH of your water or tried using bottled for a while? How about cranberry capsules...or mixing a bit of juice into a few cups of water so she drinks a good amount?

I did have her on cranberry capsules or mixing cranberry juice in her food when she was having a big problem before. It seemed to help. The vet said to wait this time until we get the culture results back. That should be tomorrow. But I just saw on another posting that distilled water can cause mineral leaching...interesting article. I don't give her distilled water, just from the tap, but we've recently moved into a new house and have a water softener now. Was wondering if that could have anything to do with it?

Hi Jen, a water softener is better, go to your kitchen or bathroom faucet and unscrew the aerator, if you see little bits of sediment trap within, it's time to get a brita / pur filter.

Hang in there! Sheba has been so sick. She is on same meds as me because she had a HORRIBLE reaction to Metacam vet recently put her on for Elbow Dysplacia. We just can't win. She lost about 4 lbs in a few weeks.
