I do think the furminator can cut their top coat if you're not careful, but it should have no effect on the color change in a dog's coat. Is Bastion still young? They go through a lot of color changes sometimes as they mature.

He is one year. 
Like I said the root is light tan and the top is jet black 
It does work wonders on other breads who are just one soli color all over but I would not recommend it for a corgi w many colors.
I use this too everyday at work grooming dogs but it's rare that we get tri colored corgi's we usually just get the red and white ones.

I use the Furminator the way I was taught in grooming school.
Not too hard of a stroke and not just in one place because then I starts destroying the coat.
I brush a little all over, no more.

Hi Shayla, glad to hear you are following Furminator's instruction, a lot of owners fail to follow instructions, they press down too hard and forget to lift up at the end of each strokes.

 

Hair / coat colour have NOTHING to do with brush / blade, it's genetic. There's NO brush on the market that will only brush dead hair and leave only the healthy one intact, remember the Fulminator is also a blade.

The Furminator has a shedding blade, so it's possible you have been removing the tips of the top coat with it when you use it.  So, rather than changing the color of the hair that grew back, it's more likely that you have inadvertently cut off the black part of a lot of his hair, leaving only the tan behind.  I have been reluctant to get a Furminator for this reason... I use a basic undercoat rake instead.

I was excited to get the furminator a few years back, I used it only twice and stopped.  I very quickly realized that the furminator could do more damage than good, I didn't like the sound of it when I was using it.  When I read more about the furminator my thoughts were confirmed that it could do more damage than good.

I am aware its a blade, and I do use it gently and hardly every really use it maybe once a month. I am a groomer like I said we use it all the time. I'm not saying it changed the color I'm saying it removed the black causing the light to come up.

It wouldn't be a bother on a dog like a labs coat because it's generally all the same color but on a corgi it could cut the tip and reveal a different color so I'm just saying it's not the best tool to use for a corgi any other breed SURE, I'm all for it but not my babies. I love my Bastian's beautiful coat and was very disappointed when it started growing back different colors or revealing different colors.

Tri-colors tend to change colors drastically as they grow older.  Edison came to us almost completely black, with little tan eyebrows, and now he's a complete redhead with tan legs and a black saddle.  Check with your breeder if you're not sure what your corgi's coat is likely to be.  

 

It's also possible that you removed enough of the black outer coat, so that layers of tan undercoat are showing through, in which case just wait and the black will return. We had this experience when we first got the Furminator, and overbrushed Edison out of sheer enthusiasm.  :(  Our bad!  We've kept him on a once-a-week Furmination ever since then.  :)

Well his mom is a light brown color and his dad is a black brown and white tri.

He came out exactly like his dad and his little brother grizzly came out looking just like his mom

At one year he is still growing in his first adult coat and his coat color is changing due to genetics, not grooming.

 

I have a red and white with sabling, and a RHT and I use the furminator and have never had a color change.
