We are interested in adding another male to our little family in the near future and we were hoping for some advice. Midas does not do well with sharing his toys and we have always just put them up whenever there are other dogs around. The thing is he loves them so much I would feel guilty putting them up forever. I would love to get him to a point where he could be okay with another dog going near and playing with his toys. How did you all do it. I see all the puppies that are sharing and getting along with toys, I want that for Midas.

We actually are fostering another dog right now and we have put away all toys. He has gotten less and less jealous by the day when we give the other affection. Midas listens very well when it comes to the leave it or drop it command. We have used that alot when it come to food during feeding time. I did break out a rope yesterday. I sat on the floor and mediated. They played tug but as soon as I thought things were getting a little too rough I said drop it and it was over. I think I will try a little more each day and hopefully he will get better. He seems to do okay with sharing, he definitely likes to take the rope by her and nudge it with a groan. I do wonder if he is more okay with sharing with her because she isn't too sure what to do the with rope to begin with. Oh well, it's a work in progress.
This sounds very positive on his part and this is what you would do with a pup too! You're right in there with them and teaching appropriate play and not just letting them do what ever they want.Ending when things got too rough was very good also!

It sounds like he will be fairly easy to retrain/teach! Way to go midas!
We brought Tenby into the family when he was 6 months and Chepstow was 14 months. We gave extra attention to the older one, always fed him first and across the room. Tenby was a rescue and weak when he arrived. Chepstow wanted to play ruff and we had to step in, but we never yelled or punished him. As Tenby got stronger they were able to interact better. It was been 3 years and they are best friends. Yes, we have a disagreement sometimes but don't all siblings.
Get duplicate toys. Caden and henry have usually two of everything but that doesnt quite work and the boys are getting alone very well but there is still some issues and we have had the boys for heck almost nine months togther.
