treats for your corgi? what kinds do you use? especially for puppies.

hello! I am just trying to get some ideas on what kind of treats you feed your corgi, to maybe give maggie some variety. If you own a puppy, i'd be especially curious as maggie is 6 months old, still a puppy.

On a normal basis, this is maggie's diet. She is in great health. She weighs 19 pounds, but is very lean! I think she is going to be a big female corgi. I was almost worried she wasn't eating enough because she looked a bit too lean to me, but apparently she is great!

This is on a normal basis, this week she is refined much throughout the day due to her spay, she has a larger incison and needs to rest it alot. So she has had double the rawhides/icecubes/kong fix inorder to keep her mouth occupied.

She eats 3/4 cup of Natural balance venison and rice in the am, 1/2 cup in the pm. She gets maybe 5-10 small puppy mother hubbard treats broken up or Zukes soft treats. For trainings and going into her crate at night. She usually gets 1 rawhide to chew on a day, and a dental bone twice a week. Once in a while she will get a 1/4 of a stale bagel. In the summer I am sure she will be replacing alot of these with icecubes in the summer. I bought her Zukes cranberry dental treats, but i think I am going to return them. I gave her one last night and this Am she had diarrea.

I know alot of you guys give your dogs veggies. I do not want to feed maggie any thing remotely related to table food. she has no interest in us when we eat bfast, dinner, or lunch or anything. I want to keep it this way. Do you know of any other natural/veggie based treats? She loves her food, dont want to change that.

maggie is not a kong girl. I have been filling it with pb this week again to keep her mouth occupied in her crate since she cannot run around the house. But she just licks it just enough and then stops, so its kind of pointless. lol When she gets her stitches out, I am ditching the kongs. i think I will clean them and donate them to the shelter.

again, just curious for some more ideas!

KC only likes the Canine Carryouts, they are soft I think is why she does. She is a picky girl about stuff. She will only do tricks for theses kind of treats, if I didn't know better I would swear that she knows what color the bags are. The other two dogs like any type of dog treats, they don't care.
Our dogs like bully sticks and deer antlers, and baby carrots. Oh, try dried sweet potato chews! Hard to find but the dogs like them.
Frodo wasn't into baby carrots all that much. He was 19 lbs at 4 months, and he's a BIG boy now (40 lbs at just over a year and a half). So I watch his food. As a puppy he ate a lot more, but now he's down to a cup a day.

For treats I usually do things like bully sticks, or real raw bones (he LOVES those), but he's a chewer. He also likes nylabone bones. He loves his pb filled kongs, too. For training-type treats I use chicken breast jerky. I rip them up very small and he gets those. He'll eat just about any type of treat, though. He ESPECIALLY likes cat treats, probably because the cats get them! So, I will give them those sometimes when I'm training/treating both him and the cats...

I agree about no human-type food, the closest thing to human-type food he's had since we got him is the peanut butter. I think his breeder spoiled him as it took him a bit to learn not to beg! But he has no real interest in human food now. The chicken jerky is enough like a treat that it's fine.

Good luck!
Just make sure not to give any treats made in China. They are suspected of causing kidney and liver failure (probably caused my Bruce's kidney failure). Chicken Jerky (especially the bulk bags from Costco) is commonly fed but is really dangerous to feed if it is not made in the USA.
oh my god... I've been feeding my 11-week-old pupppy chicken jerky tenders from Costco since I got her... Should I go refund it?! Now I'm really worried..
Costco is good about taking things back, and maybe if enough of us complain they will stop stocking them! Whatever you do, stop feeding them to your pup.
I didn't retain the receipt tho.... I hope they will still take it back... sigh...
I have stopped feeding the jerky tenders to Tiida (call me paranoid... I just don't want to see anything bad happening to my puppy).
My Maggie loves baby carrots. She doesn't bother us when we are eating our meals at all but I have trained her not to. What I love about the baby carrots is that she can have them all day long without the added calories like what puppy treats and dog biscuits will give her. She does have to sit, stay, lay down for them though. Sams Yams are great. They are very hard to find but worth it. Just don't give your dog anything made in china.

Another great toy that I have found is the Kong Material toy......its a stuffed bear, frog that has a squeaker. I have had mine for 3 weeks now and not a tear. My Maggie destroys everything including nonedible nylabones which made her extremely sick. For her not have a tear in this toy is amazing. They come with replacement squeakers too or you can purchase extra squeakers. I know its not "food" related but would give her something else to play with. Maggie carries her bear around the house and even sleeps with it. She is so much like a child. Hope that helps
Mine loves Charlee Bear treats. They're pretty small, but great for training and everyday rewards. She also likes the Blue Buffalo health bars, which are larger and she can snack on longer. Oh, and ice cubes are one of her favorites :)
I give ice cubes (I limit 1 or 2 per day), Mother hubbard treats (broken into bits), & Charlee Bear treats.

Once in a while, I also treat him to a teaspoonful of peanut butter, a small piece of carrot, or one or two slices of banana- which he loves!
great ideas! thank you!
Cloud still isn't into baby carrots all that much and he's 11 months now. I've always given him, and he loves, Zukes mini natural treats. They have plenty of flavors so I can mix it up on him. I also give him Zukes Jerky Naturals, and Bil Jac liver treats. The Jerky Naturals are a bit big, so I simply cut them in half so he can eat the treat quickly when I give it to him. If the treat is big Cloud will take his sweet time examining, tasting, and slowly chewing it to his pleasure.
