Tumors - Update!
Last night when I got home from work, Algy just wasn't acting right. He wouldn't walk and he snubbed his nose at the little piece of doughnut that I brought home for him. Well, we took him to the emergency vet and they told us his blood count looked good (he has ITP) but that he was moderately anemic. We were prepared for the worst, but after a few hours they found the problem. Algy had a tumor in/on his spleen that was ruptured and bleeding out. He underwent surgery in the middle of the night and came through it OK, but we don't know if the tumor is cancerous or not - not yet.
My question is has anyone undergone this with their kiddo? How did it turn out or what was your experience with it? I am trying to figure out what to expect (at least a little). He has other underlying problems and I don't know yet how the new problem will impact the old ones.

I've had no experience either, but I'm so sorry you guys have to go through this. WE're hoping for a speedy recovery and a healthy long life after this is resolved. PLease keep us posted.

Really glad you acted fast and caught this. Hope he is doing well soon! Our doberman has had three stomach surgeries and recovered very quickly so I hope it is the same for Algy.

I am new to MyCorgi so I don't know how old Algy is, but my Mace had a spleenic tumor. The vet recognized it immediately and operated. Mace was 14 and they prepped us for a bad outcome. She apparently had a slow bleed and had suffered a large blood loss. This was a Sunday night (these things never happen normal times). They told us to say our goodbyes, just in case, and go home. They had to get the rest of the surgical team in. She called us excited to say Mace made it through the surgery and she was cautiously optimistic. After four days in the hospital Mace came home a 3.5 lb tumor removed. She made an absolutely full recovery and even was more playful. I guess the tumor was causing many things we didn't recognize and chalked up to old age. My Mace passed away about 8 months later with a problem that was totally unrelated to the tumor or surgery. She was very happy and funloving those last 8 months. My vet and research I performed said those types of tumors are rarely cancer. I pray that Algy has as good of an outcome as Mace.

Thanks for the thoughts and Thanks also for some info. It makes me feel better and it also helps to see that while Algy is still moving slow, he's getting a little bit better everyday. We won't know about the biopsy until sometime next week when it comes back from the lab.
So far, so good. He has regained the desire to sit outside again and come out from under his little table. Hopefully tomorrow, he'll be feeling a little better.

Well, we had the staples taken out today from his surgery and the vet said that Algy had a low grade lymphoma and that they were sure they had gotten all of the tissue out. We won't know for sure if it will come back for at least 6 months, but the vet said that it looked good. So, so far things are getting back to as normal as it can be with a corgi!!
