Hello all! I'm the parent of Flash, a 3.5 year old pembroke who has been with us since he was about 3 months old. Flash was house trained in about 2 weeks and has been since, up until RECENTLY.
He's usually very well behaved, but recently he has been hiking his leg and peeing in our house, about 3 times in the past week. He has been doing this when we are home, and not in secret (not in corners, etc), on prominent furniture or walls in the house.
This morning he did it around 9 am; he had last been out around 7 and this is a dog who can hold it for 4-5 hours in the house (or that's as long as we let him go without going out).
There haven't been any major life changes, we haven't moved or been traveling lately. We have been letting him have more freedom in the past 3-4 months however; instead of kenneling him ALL the time when we aren't home, we let him stay out in the house around 3-4 hours max if we're not here. We've also been letting him sleep in our room at night on his dog bed instead of in his kennel.
I really think he's acting out, but I'm not sure why; any ideas? Could use some help! Thanks!

Ok, if he's neutered I would take him to the vet first to rule out health issue. If he were intact I was going to ask if maybe a female in heat was in the neighborhood.
If he checks out ok at the vet then I would leash him so I could give him a quick correction at any inside marking, but please do rule out the health problem first as you dont' want to correct him if he has discomfort from a UTI.
