Without naming names, there was a stupid (convicted of dogfighting) football player who was going to be a spokesman for a famous sandwhich shop, what happened with that?

What a jerk...do we know for sure that he is a spokesperson for this sandwich shop? If so I will boycot and send them a letter on what I think and let others know also!!!!!!! Customers have a right to speak up also!!!!!!

Hi Steve,

Not sure if he's still doing it - was there an investigation that showed he still had contact with dog fighting circles? If so could you send the link, I'd love to take a look. But more to you're other point - this isn't about the sports teams. This is about the American justice system in general.

It doesn't matter if you're a multi-billion dollar sports hero or a puppy mill director - the fines and jail time are nothing in comparison to the money to be made breaking the law. Until changes can be made, and people can be made to see the value in non-human life, the system will always be broken in our eyes and judges will not have the power to throw these people in jail.

As for the sports teams - sure they could have kicked him out of the league but how is that their job? He was tried under our justice system, fined and punished by that set of standards. When he walked a free man then it might have been illegal to punish him otherwise.

I'm not saying I agree with it but I recognize that it's a broken system that allows men like this to walk free and allows rich people to bend the rules to fit their lifestyle. I'm just waiting for everyone in this country to throw their hands up in frustration.

Very interesting topic. I guess I am pretty harsh, I would respect more people to at least not have given him a job in the NFL. Maybe  the local humane society but not still making loads of money. I liken it to an accountant stealing money, it would be highly unlikely another firm would hire an accountant that has been jailed for stealing so why should we reward him with the same flipping job that gave him the money do to what he did with those poor, poor animals.
Excuse the really really long run on sentence at the end of my last post....LOL
Great topic.    And the worst thing to me, besides all the misplaced adulation of this guy, is how he's been saying he wants to get a dog as a pet now!
Last topic I dreamed I would see here. My biggest problem with this whole thing is this. HSUS profited financially and publicity wise (as they always do when "pit bulls" or famous people are involved) and yet they, along with the ASPCA and PETA all basically believe the APBT should be extinct "for their own good". As far as I'm concerned they are hypocrites. There is dog fighting all across this country and a myriad of other atrocities visited on our animal friends and until the laws change this will not stop. And if people are waiting for the animal rights people to make the change it won't happen. It will take every animal lover contacting and pressuring their elected officials. It will take work in the community, by those in the community through education. It will take representation by groups other than "pit bull" peeps because we are very rarely taken seriously- and no matter what it seems that when you walk a pit bull down the street people cross the street to the other side. I watched my beautiful breed ambassadors face for 16 yrs be confused when people herded their kids away from her when she adored children.......sigh. I will shut up now. This is a subject I have been involved with for 10 yrs and I am passionate about it because of my love for a breed of dog I am not allowed to have. Because of BSL. I like to think God sent me a Corgi to fill the void in my heart left when my beautiful old girl went to the bridge.

It was my understanding that Subway merely underwrote the sportsman award and claims that they had no say who would be recipient.  The ensuing uproar should have indicated to the corporate suits that they were not good stewards of their brand name.  I travel to herding lessons through Surry County, VA where one day, we ventured down Moonlight Drive.  We stopped at the frontage of the then unoccupied Vick residence, put my corgis on their leads and permitted them to lift their legs on the white fence.  We then went home on the ferry.

Just don't spend your money at Subway, that's all.

All the best from Williamsburg:  Nan, Bear, Tasha and Linus

No excuses here (because I can not forgive that type of behavior)  however......we create these monsters.  These guys are watched as grade school, high school and college athletes.  They are showered with "fame", awards, and praise most of their lives.  They grow up thinking they are invincible, and not accountable for any of their actions.  Think of all the young athletes who, lately,  have self destructed;  they just don't get it because they have never had to "get it"

Sorry, I'll get off my soap box now but I think the fault lies with the adults, who should know better, that surround the" super stars".  A regular reality check would probably do wonders--to all parties involved!

You got that right....
Nah, I agree to some extent but how many times are we going to allow the blame to fall else where ie us for adoration?? If there was one person that knew it was wrong was Vick himself. I will never forgive him, he (to me) is a worthless human.
Sorry if it sounded like I was defending him, I loathe anyone who mistreats and/or abuses animals.  I think he should get as good as he gave, and at a certain point in your life one has to become an adult and be responsible for their actions--No Excuses.  I do however, think there is more involved here and the system needs to change.  And I don't think it will change with just  a" slap on the wrist" charge of the individual.
That nasty sandwich place sponsored the award given to that POS by BET. He is not a spokesperson for that sandwich shop. He is a spokesperson for that shoe company. All of them have been contacted by myself and many, many others and told of their lack of class. The concussion applied to him by Atlanta this past weekend was a very good thing. I wonder though, since he can not perform, will he be hung, electrocuted or shot like he did to his dogs?
