winter bonfires with corgis

hi everyone, a group of my friends are planning an evening winter bonfire for the weekend after next, and i was wondering if anyone has expierience with dogs who come to these types of things. kirby is 10 months old, and loves being outside. i want to bring him to the bonfire so he can play with my friends american eskimo dogs during the bonfire. the only thing that worries me is the cold. it gets around 4 degrees ferienhit in the evnings here, and i dont want to risk his feet getting too cold. i am pretty sure he will come near the fire with me if he gets cold but i dont know about his little paws... and i dont want to leave him in a car the whole time and he hates dog booties:( btw we live in alaska

HI Amberlie and Kirby, our two Corgis Ed(10 mos) and Gem(1) are good little bonfire dogs..we camp with them and have a fire pit in our back yard. They often will just settle in and lay down snoozing while people chat. I do keep a pretty good eye on them though. How did he do with the cold over the Winter??? If he starts lifting his paws up a lot, I guess I would take him in somewhere and warm up, then go back out. That is how we played it over this past cold Minnesota Winter. They loved the snow and often times do not want to come in. Have fun!!

he never wants to come inside during the winter, lol i have to go catch him. he never has started lifting his paws except in wet snow, but we only have dry snow right now

My only thought if he wants to sit/lay by you would be if you have a waterproof quilted pad that you can set by your chair...this way he wouldn't have to be on the could wet snow there would be a barrier! have a great time my dogs love bonfires...but we don't do them in winter!

Yea I agree you should put a blanket down (fireproof if you could) near you while sitting around the fire. Roxi loves fires. She fell in love with them when we went camping last year and after swimming all day in the river she would just lay next to the fire pit while we sat around cooked and chatted. Now when we make fires at home she just chills there with her face towards the fire while we watch tv lol.

Talk to the local dog people about foot issues with snow and ice.
A square of ensolite closed-cell foam fad is standard equipment for backpacking/mountaineering -- important first-aid item -- and they're perfect for dogs. That's what they sleep on at night.
