What is the consensus about our dogs seeing colors? Do they see colors like we do? I know that they have a different cone and rod setup but is it a retina issue or is it a brain issue? Any doctors?

First a question:  If 101 Dalmations was about corgis, would Cruella Deville be making a CARDIGAN CARDIGAN???
--Something else to think about--

And to your question--- I found this online:

"The eyes of both people and dogs contain special light catching cells called cones that respond to color. Dogs have fewer cones than humans which suggests that their color vision won't be as rich or intense as ours.

And I agree.  I think they do see color, but mught just be able to differentiate between say red shades and blue shades... (I'm a geologist so don't know how credible I am:)

I am not a vet or doctor, but there was a news program the other day that said research has shown dogs do see colour but in a more limited and muted palate than humans. They also said that with new HD TVs dogs can make out what is happening on TV much better than on older style TVs, so don't be shocked if your dog starts taking more interest in whats on.
From what I've read they can see mostly blues and yellows. If you ever see agility equipment you'll notice it's almost always painted in these two colors.
Both Jane and Potus said what I have heard also.  For good info on how dogs' senses differ from ours, I recommend "Inside Of a Dog" by Alexandra Horowitz.
