Hi, all! I've joined the Dog Scouts (www.dogscouts.org); they have a local troop that meets at the Humane Society Silicon Valley (www.hssv.org) on the 4th Thursday at 6:30. USUALLY dogs are allowed and encouraged! However, this meeting people should come without their dogs. And this is why!

The cops are coming!

"An officer and his canine partner from Santa Clara Police Department
have been invited to our June 23rd meeting to tell us all about  police dogs, their training (nothing like WE do it!), their backgrounds, they will bring their "ride" so we can see how the dogs are transported (no longer in the back of a sedan with the back seat removed), the equipment they use & many other things. They do presentations like this all the time & he's looking forward to talking to folks who already speak "dog".

"Since the canine officer will be at our meeting the officer has asked that we NOT bring our Scout & Cadets this time. In place of our dogs, please bring family, neighbors & friends as this promises to be a very interesting discussion."

So, I will be there! The meeting will be at 6:30, HSSV (901 Ames Avenue, Milpitas, CA), Classroom B! Anyone interested, please come on by! Just leave the corgis and other dogs at home.  :)

Bella and I won't make it this Saturday as we are fostering HSSV puppies from Milpitas.  Hope to see you all next month :)

There's an agility class on Sundays (once a month I think) up Summit Road in LG. I haven't gone yet but heard about it this week. Will post more info asap.

Does anyone know of any/participate in any agility classes around San Jose? It seems really fun and I think Scraper would really enjoy it!

Just reminding everyone that it is the 3rd Saturday, so we'll be at the Shoreline Dog Park in Mountain View, small dog side, at 10 a.m. this Saturday! I'll be there with Frodo the Cardigan Welsh Corgi!  :)  Hope to see you there!

Tegan, Carol and John - I dont have a car so my corgi socials are limited to where BART/my legs will take me.

Patty and Frodo and Crystal - I am smack dab in the heart of SF, although if any other corgi owners wanna carpool when Bartleby gets to 16 weeks I would be interested in that!

Nancy Weller is excellent with training.  Always positive.  I have called her for suggestions with Bella from time to time when aren't in training.  I suggest that if ignoring her and or turn your back isn't working that you give her a time out in her crate.  It doesn't have to be negitive, just a go to your crate/house depending on what you call it.  It seperates her from you which tell her that if she nips at you, she needs to take a time out in her crate.  Same thing with barking.  Someitimes Bella will bark for no reason, I simply say, go to your house and she does.  Then I say no barking and give her a few minutes to calm down.  It does work and it's not negitive.

Those of you who are located in Silicon Valley, I just created a group for us. Please feel free to join if you live here and then we can keep in touch better. Thanks.

Thank you for your suggestions. Kiki does really well playing with other dogs, when she is at home she still likes to nips us on the feet and hands, and bark to get things she wants. We tried the ignoring thing, but that doesn't work at all. She is very stuborn, just like a Corgi. So, do Nancy or the other trainers address these type of issues in the class. Basically we are looking for a positive obedience trainer, that is hopefully under $100.
