30 year old photo - Rookie, w. baby Lindsay

Rookie loved Lindsay and was always there protecting her. I can't imagine ever worrying about how Rookie would react to the birth of Lindsay, our first baby. I also can't imagine keeping them apart. Prior to our babies, Rookie was always with me. No matter how late I'd be up working, he'd be right there with his regal head on my foot. He was incensed when we came home with a new Corgi, Maggie. Maggie was 14 wks. and Rookie was 6 mo. He tried every which way to keep from entering a room. When she persevered, he pushed her into our pool. Eventually they became inseparable best friends. But, Maggie never was devoted to the babies like Rookie. Maybe Rookie just kept them to himself.

How do I ever get over losing my best friend? I had to make the awful decision to send her over The Bridge on Oct 10 2011. Still to this day I cry over losing her. I do have a new puppy coming Feb…Continue

Love the story about the kiss! It is hard to describe the "corgi essence" to non-corgi lovers but once they have been around them for awhile it is a rare person that can resist it!

Thanks for the welcome, Jack & Wendy. I lost both of my Corgi pals last year, Watson in March and Tinsel in November. Gromit is a first class Corgi pal and a worthy successor to his great-uncle and great-aunt but I still miss W&T tremendously, they were not yet eleven years old and so left us much too soon.

Back in 2001 I took my pal Watson to my parent's house for Christmas. He wasn't entirely welcome but I knew he'd be a perfect gentlemen as he always was. Come Christmas Day we all lined up for the usual family photo. Some said "Watson has to be in the picture too! Get Watson!" So I scooped him up off of the floor and stood there next to my mom as we all jostled closer together for the picture. Watson stretched his neck out a little and then rested his head on my mom's shoulder. She tilted her head a little to smile at him and everyone "Awwwwwww!" The he looked at her with his big brown Corgi eyes and gave her a huge lick right on the mouth! Mom screeched, made spitting noises, and ran for the kitchen to wash her face as the rest of laughed hysterically. I looked at Watson and said "You were doing so well up until now pal, then you blew it."

Mom forgave him but she never trusted him near her face again.

Phinneas would've loved the nice Spring weather we've been having. Gem rolled in something nasty yesterday....Phinny never would do that!!!(I love Gem all the same tho)

Andrea, we are so sad to hear about losing your angel dog Sammy. Your picture is exactly how I envision Phinneas flitting around in the Great Beyond. I am glad he has some of his own family waiting for him. Peace......

Andrea, so sorry for your loss. I love your painting of your Angel. I know that in Corgi Heaven Sammy is playing with Corky and all of the rest of the corgis that went before him, and they are having the best of times. The only remedy is another warm tongue to cheer you up.

@Andrea- I forgot to mention how much I loved your painting of Sammy with wings. How could you not lose your heart to such a beautiful and beguiling Corgi face. Letting go is so hard, and I hope you find some comfort reading other Corgi owners comments in this group.

Andrea, I am so sorry for your loss of Sammy. Part of being a good furry parent is knowing when to let go. But the emptiness is still so hard and rips at your heart. Being with Sammy and supporting him, I am sure that helped him more than you can know. They sense our commitment to them and love us so unconditionally. Sammy was blessed to have had you for his "Mommy".

I am so sorry for your sadness and for the loss of Sammy. I know how hard it was because we had to make the same decision for Dylan who also had DM. We were with him until the end and it was the right thing. In the end I actually felt that I had waited a bit too long. It is so hard. My heart goes out to you and the pain you are feeling.
